I worked on dive boats as a cook in the early 80's, the Sand Dollar and Bottom Scratcher based in San Diego. I have been diving since 1975 and this story really broke my heart. RIP beautiful divers.

That surviving crew is screwed.
They were all asleep with no watchman on duty.
Totally against the law.

The NTSB is going to ruin, rightfully so, the owner and the crew of that ship.

Based on that last foray, this is an unexpected surprise - I haven't encountered anyone who has actually been on a dive with that operation who had any concerns about safety.

I don't dive as regularly as I would like - but I've encountered operations I'd never dive with again because of how cavalier they are about safety. Everyone I've intereacted with about this who has a direct connection has indicated that was an op where diver safety was a top priority. So this development shocks me (in part, since I dive all over - rarely the same place twice. That means I am (to some extent) risking my life based on the opinions of others I trust - and some of those I trust are among those who indicated, from their personal experience, that this was among the better ops).

I can't imagine how it must have felt to be so trapped with no way out. RIP, lovely people.
