Required viewing: "The American Dream"

1. I had a college history professor that always use air quotes and rolled his eyes

when he said "the American dream". He really went off on the Horatio Alger myth. I was a total chowder head then and didn't get half of what he was trying to teach us. I read "The Jungle' by Upton Sinclair for a book review in his class and bombed. For me that was only getting a C. I didn't pull much of anything that he would have liked to have seen out of that book the first time a read it.

Now I would tear that class up and dazzle him with my Jungle review! It took a lot of hard work at bad jobs, growing up and learning to appreciate that man.
