Will Trump be the first ex president indicted, tried and jailed?

Okay, I get the ten tons of bullshit of why a sitting, insane president can't be held responsible.

But once he's an ex president, will the Democrats, or any state attorney generals, hold him answerable for any and all crimes he's committed?

I don't hold out much hope for the Democratic Party bringing him to justice. All that would matter to them is that if they held him responsible for his crimes against the Constitution and humanity (dead children on the border), is that the next time we have a Dem president and a Republican controlled congress, is that they'd seek vengeance beyond imagination.

But that shouldn't restrain the AGs of NY, Virginia, and elsewhere from bringing charges against Trump for his financial crimes. (There are drug dealers in jail for 25 years or more because of money laundering crimes.)

Al Capone was convicted on tax evasion and died in jail. IMO, Trump makes Capone look like an amateur.

It may be too much to expect he will not be able to skate around these too.
I expect he will be dead before any legal system actually sentences him.

Prosecutors aren’t going to tremble with political issues like politicians do. Prosecutors who go after criminals have the full weight of the law backing them and prosecuting is the be all, the end all, the bare bones essence of their jobs. They have the legal obligation to bring criminals to justice.

It would be too scandalous for us as a country to have to admit that we had a felon as a president. After all, that's the type of thing that happens in third world countries, not the great United States!

It reminds me of when Gerald Ford pardoned Nixon—he didn't want the country to be in turmoil for the next 10 years. Even though Trump is hated by many people and is no doubt guilty of many crimes, I can't imagine that any justice department would bring up charges.

It is unlikely that he gets indicted on federal charges, and even if he does, there is historical precedent that he might get pardoned. Not for his sake, but for the sake of the Office of the President.

State charges, on the other hand... But even there he has a good chance of being found not guilty for reasons of insanity.

Things that happened while he was president will not be pursued. If New York finds something from before he was president he will be allowed to plea out and probably just pay a fine. That's the reality.

And honestly, the next president will not want to have to deal with Trump's legal problems dominating the news cycle.
