In his speech to the Republican convention last night, Mitt Romney used some version of the word "mom" 14 times.
That was one more time than he said the word "Obama" or "future" and ten more times than the word "economy."
Even more striking than how often we came up was the reverence he had for us. "I knew that her job as a mom was harder than mine," he said of his wife, Ann. "And I knew without question, that her job as a mom was a lot more important than mine."
The speech dripped with such reverence for women who have children that one of the most popular tweets last night was this one from @dweinberger.
"So tonight I'm proud to announce I'm running to be your Mom." #Romney

Every person has or had a Mom, I am a Mom, but the presentations made this week demagoguing Moms just about made me gag. Lisa Belkin's column is right to the point.

(12,081 posts)My daughter is about to turn eighteen. Does that mean she is irrelevant until she becomes a mom? Just goes to show the contempt they have for strong, independent, single women, even single mothers. You are only a good woman if you do what women are put on this Earth to do, get married and procreate. Disgusting.

It's clearly sexist when men rarely are considered primarily fathers or husbands before anything else yet women are looked at as nothing more than moms or wives. It reinforces the GOP stereotype that women belong in the kitchen, barefoot, and pregnant and just goes to show their disdain for women even as they are trying to compliment them.
