Abstract
Conservatism and cognitive ability are negatively correlated. The evidence is based on 1254 community college students and 1600 foreign students seeking entry to United States' universities. At the individual level of analysis, conservatism scores correlate negatively with SAT, Vocabulary, and Analogy test scores. At the national level of analysis, conservatism scores correlate negatively with measures of education (e.g., gross enrollment at primary, secondary, and tertiary levels) and performance on mathematics and reading assessments from the PISA (Programme for International Student Assessment) project. They also correlate with components of the Failed States Index and several other measures of economic and political development of nations. Conservatism scores have higher correlations with economic and political measures than estimated IQ scores.

(22,479 posts)help, food stamps, help with education. I listened to a "friend" that I went to high school with, whose family was not very financially secure and he got a free lunch say that he thinks kids today who get free lunches should get cheese sandwiches and eat in a separate area of the lunch room.
I think of conservatism and the absolute opposite of socialism.

(28,120 posts)It's not just their RW lying news that has misinformed them, the base, it's WHY they sought out those sources to begin with. And yes, they had choices.
They have personality disorders and misplaced anger issues.

1) power for the powerful;
2) Wealth for the wealthy;
3) comfort for the comfortable;
4) poverty for the poor; and
5) affliction for the afflicted.
My further research substantiated this.

(24,284 posts)Not willing to try anything new, resistance to change and innovation, usually practiced by those who are doing well and are satisfied with the current system. Also those who think things were always better in the past than they will be in the future.
Edit: After writing the above, I looked up the dictionary definition.

(253 posts)I agree it began with gwb (wasn't his campaign theme song (friends in low places"??). Also include a hefty dose of deplorable reality tv.. Honey Boo Boo, Kartrashians, Real Housewives, Bachelor, and of course The Apprentice. These mindless shows hooked people into the drama and need to replicate in real life and made celebrities out of low talent, non-educated individuals. None of those shows featured anyone reading a book ever.

(22,479 posts)how needy and frightened people were. The show also revealed very clearly that people from the other countries really wanted to get out of their country and come to the US. There was one poor guy from Nigeria who hooked up with a very controlling woman from the US and he seemed to try so hard not to get her mad but he would make mistakes basically because of their different cultures and he would literally look scared that she was going to leave him because of these faux pas. He also was a big fan of Donald Trump and kept a framed picture of him in his house. She was obviously a Trump supporter and he was deluded into what it was going to be like for him here.
I am a 61 year old woman now, divorced and widowed. I don't have that kind of need that I used to have for another person in my life and I think I actively avoid situations where that could happen again. I don't like how I end up feeling needy when I get in a relationship. Perhaps that will change, I don't know.
But watching these people is not as mindless as you would think; at least that's how it was for me.
I don't know about the other reality shows though. I am sure you are right about many of them.

(253 posts)I can see how that show highlights cultural differences and how dire some situations are in other countries. I think what I really meant to convey was how addicted to the "drama" so many of these shows are, hence this country's need for the tv show atmosphere in the White House
