They are entitled to hold whatever political opinions they wantand not be in violation of any law or rule regarding tax exempt status
They are free to be a$$es, jerks, hypocrites all they want, because as a private citizens that is their right
Using non-profit for politics is a violation, having an obnoxious opinion about politics is not

Many of these "non-profits" pay their leaders and executives millions of dollars. Not just churches. Look at the NBA. The NRA. Countless others.

Please read Jane Mayers' "Dark Money", which details how the billionaire class funds "non-profit" groups, using tax exempt status to protect their fortunes and for personal gain.

The principle of tax exempt organizations that "serve the public good" sounds righteous, but in practice it is disastrous, another loophole to take money from the working class and funnel it to the already rich.

They want Roe v. Wade overturned and abortion made illegal for any reason, even to save the life of the mother. The new nonsense being pushed is that an abortion is never medically necessary and that the fetus of an ectopic pregnancy can be removed from the fallopian tube and placed in the uterus. It can’t. And if you do nothing, the woman will bleed to death.

Their second goal is to overturn any rights for LGBT and force them back into the closet by reinstating laws that victimize them. Never mind that a large majority of people support these rights.

And finally they want to preserve white supremacy and privilege. I do not think they even see their own hypocrisy, and the excuse they give is that the Lord works even through imperfect people like Trump, and God is the one who ensured his election because he will save the country from all the negative cultural changes they are seeing and want to reverse. This perversion of Christianity is dangerous because public officials have a hard time countering it without looking unChristian themselves. And somehow, even though they’re a minority, they have gained outsized political power. They are the rabid, faithful base of the Republican Party and they will vote for any Republican no matter how dishonest or corrupt.

At least not for the rank and file evangelicals.

Being Republican is part of the evangelical identity, and generally speaking, people are more forgiving of those in their in-group than they are of those in their out-group. I'm sure the more cerebral evangelicals are rationalizing their support for Donald Trump with Roe v. Wade and whatever horrible legislation they'd like to see enacted, but I think your average Joe is willing to cut Trump some slack because he's "one of us".

to study the reactions. I'm a car guy (skews towards blind trumperism) and I have Baptist friends, and it's always fun to gauge the reactions.

its fun with trumpers - if they disagree, they dismiss as "fake news". Easy-peazzie. no thinking required. I keep re-learning a quote from my hero Frank Zappa; "People will agree with you only if they already agree with you. You do not change peoples minds."

Another thing on FB that I've grown to realize, righties have a deep seething hatred and utter contempt towards progressive liberal dems. post birth abortions, open borders, free stuff, other peoples money, antifa are the real nazi's and already murdered some,

a post from a conservative fb bud i went to college with:

"The activist left seeks to control everything you do, including what you put in your mouth." "the most dangerous place for a person in the United States is inside the womb of a Democrat", "Bernie Sanders Backs Abortion for Population Control: Kill More Babies to Combat Climate Change"

The SEETHING PREJUDICE I endure from my conservative buds is infuriating and hurts my feelings. Well, if they really feel that way about us, no wonder they hate people like me. Their beliefs are based on the thirty years of right wing corporate propaganda and are generally false. It's aggravating debating somebody that EVERYTHING THEY BELIEVE POLITICALLY IS WRONG!!!

But, to malign Daniel Patrick Moynihan's famous quote; "Today everybody is indeed entitled to their own facts."

I switch to fox during msnbc prime time, and if I wasn't excellent at anger management, I'd smash one TV a week in anger. Bald face easily disproved manufactured lies. There oughta be a law. and there used to be, but our laws have been dismantled for DECADES to allow this sort of thing to go on unobstructed.

Mon Sep 16, 2019, 12:55 PM
Sep 2019

And they claim trump is a gift from God. When the orange menace is no longer president, they'll switch back to 30% and not even remember what they said or did during the trump admin and worse, THEY WON'T CARE! Because it's about having their way. It's about having things they way they want them. It's about having it both ways. What's moral and righteous today may be a diffrent thing tomorrow. It doesn't matter as long as they get their way. Can you believe they called obama the antichrist!! They only thing evangelical leaders care about more than anything is MONEY!! You can say they care about abortion, race superiority, ect, but no. All that takes a back seat to the all mighty dollar. Wealth is what they really care about. Paula white tells a woman that instead of using her money for cancer treatments she should give it to her as a seed to sow for a cure! Now that greed. And she's trumps spiritual advisor! (and who knows what else). At this point, anybody who's giving money to evangelical preachers, prosperity preachers, are either totally stupid, blind, or scared to death. And most are members of trumps base. Obama knew what was going on with these preachers and decided to tax them--they got scared and started calling him the antichrist--(i.e don't f.. with my money!!). Something has to be done about these people.

....at Warren's Washington Square rally tonight said "God loves Trump'.

They had shit-eating grins on their face and red hats. Doesn't get uglier.

We numbered in the 1000's and there were about 7 of them. Everyone ignored them and just let them do their thing,

I walked up and said to one of them, "If we demonstrated at a Trump rally like you are doing here, our lives would be in danger and violence would be done to us. And you know it."

Never got a reply.
