"SNIP.....
The Alabama National Weather Service employee who tweeted that the state was not in the path of Hurricane Dorian was not aware of President Trumps tweet that the state would be hit, the New York Times reports.
It was incoming phone calls from Alabamians energized about Hurricane Dorian, suddenly confused and worried about whether they were in the path of the giant Caribbean storm. At one point, the few people on duty were all answering calls at the same time.
In response to the alarm, one employee dashed off a short message to the offices 50,000 Twitter followers that reaffirmed what the latest models were saying: Alabama had little to worry about.

(9,895 posts)Trump made a stupid original statement, was embarrassed that he was wrong, then went all Trumpy-Bear on the world for a week up to and including vandalizing government documents with markers.
There are thousands missing and dead in the Bahamas. Decency demands that we simply attend to their families and do what can be done to assist in bringing closure to those who will only know one thing - their loved one was with them before Dorian and gone after.
And not one of them will give a damn about Alabama, Trump, Sharpies or anything else. Those people are hurting, are real, and deserve our empathy. Trump is an asshole who deserves only our scorn and the jail cell so eagerly awaiting him in the future.

(118,642 posts)I do agree the whole Alabama thing took the spotlight off the suffering in the Bahamas and probably resulted in less private donations to America's close neighbour.

(16,926 posts)Yes, I agree that there is great sadness as to what happened in the Bahamas and to the suffering that continues. There are indeed several story lines that come out of this tragedy that deserve attention:
1. Rescue and recovery for the islands
2. How the US government is denying help for "those terrible criminals and bad guys - GET OFF MY LAWN, er, BOAT!"
3. How a government agency has been cast as inept or incompetent by the pronouncements of IQ45 and the following cover-up.
It is yet another example of how unqualified IQ45 is to hold ANY public office - and the public has the right to know that.
