George W Bush went AWOL for the TANG (Texas air national guard) to avoid a piss test
but "they" changed the subject to Dan Rather and the phony memo.
Trump got large sums of Russian money from Deutcshe's Bank when nobody else would
lend him a dime but "they" changed the subject to Lawrence O'Donnell's source.
Many many credible cases have come out about Brett Kavanaugh sexually assaulting
women and heavy drinking but now "they" have changed the story to the NYT.

(70,286 posts)W went AWOL as a member of the TANG, Trump got Russian money from Deutsche's Bank,
and Kavanaugh has a proven history of sexual assault (Dr. Ford's house has 2 doors to keep
her from feeling trapped) but the media sells the republican "understory."

W going AWOL, passing out and pissing the bed in Alabama after coking and drinking
as well as a # of business failures...
... and Trump is just a fucking crook, con man, a failed businessman, and mobbed up too.

(25,342 posts)The Dan Rather memo, for example, was indeed a fake. At that point, the underlying story lost some credibility (and we, an excellent journalist) so it's somewhat understandable that the fake became *the* story, at least temporarily.
The problem, of course, was that the media then focused on only the fake and not the remainder of the story. Because of our short attention span, the fake pretty much blew any chance of the story remaining in the public eye or being researched further.
Unfortunately, that's how the system works, and it's somewhat representative of our society. Big stories basically get one shot and if the story takes a hit, the media tends to toss the entire works and move on to the next shiny object.
Complicating matters, specifically in Bush's case, record-keeping was spotty and the claims were all over the place*.
Trump and the right understand this, which is why they throw out trial balloons and make seemingly contradictory claims about just about everything. It introduces confusion and causes people to question legitimate sources.

I use to know a guy in college like that. He ended up spending years in jail and got put on the sex offenders list. That's what should have happened to weenie whipper Brett.

(9,874 posts)His sexual assaults and indecent behavior alone should have been enough to disqualify him, but his rabid rant venting his anger and going into conspiracy theories about the Clintons should have been enough to convince anyone that he does not have the temperament nor the judgment to be a Supreme Court justice. Unfortunately, Republicans no longer care (actually havent for decades) about judicial competence, only party loyalty.

(10,072 posts)Drink and out comes their little weenies. Or they are on a woman who doesn't want them.
We never invited him, but he almost always showed up. We would put a watch on him. When his dick came out, or he got obnoxious with women, he would be "not so gently" escorted out.
He never graduated though he was smart. I heard he showed his dick to a very young girl whose father was a cop and he landed in jail. It just went downhill from there.

(86,040 posts)I think his appointment was a reward for protecting Epstein's clientele and Epstein as well. Probably a client himself. So exposing him could be that thread, one of many, that unravels the woven fabric of corruption. One can hope.

(70,286 posts)... Trump loans and that Kavanaugh's place on the court was part of the Judicial Crisis Network's
(rich right wing fuckers) plan for years because he has the right conservative bon vides. They spent
$18 million to keep Garland off the court.
And yes you might very well be right that Jeffery Epstein's "business" might be tied in as well.
