Should they drop all present investigations and look toward the future?
Should they forget about the Russian involvement in our elections?
Should they forget about all the high crimes and misdemeanors of Donald Trump?
Should they forget about all those that defied subpoenas and refused to testify in front of the US Congress?
Should they forget about all the corruption and obstruction and complicity that we have seen in this Administration?
Or should they continue to investigate to get to the truth?
Should they continue to call witnesses that can no longer claim "executive privilege" and hold them accountable?
The inclination of Democrats is to always move forward. There is no use in looking back.
Of course, the Republicans never chose to move forward. They could not stop investigating Hillary's emails right up until the present. Just today, Donald Trump is calling for an investigation of Michelle and Barack Obama for their "book deal" and their "Netflix deal". That may be something for Democrats to remember once they are back in power.
If crimes were committed PROSECUTE.

That is exactly why we are in the mess we are in today. Rethugs have never been taught that actions have consequences. They don't even bother to hide what they do anymore because they have never been held accountable for their actions.
If Democrats regain control of the WH and Congress it will be time to clean house.

We need to tell the next guy that it isn't OK and that it won't be let go.
Unfortunately, "we" don't get to make the decision and I expect there will be a full pardon for fucking everyone the second a new president is elected in the name of "civility" and "moving forward".
Then, it will all start again.

It would be a false choice, in my opinion. It's not about revenge. It is about truth and justice and protecting our Constitution.

(56,827 posts)Bush Sr had just pardoned a bunch of Iran Contra figures as he was leaving office, so had essentially pulled the rug out from any further investigations by Independent Counsel/Special Prosecutor Lawrence Walsh (not a Special Counsel under DOJ like Mueller, the Independent Counsel had more independence and power). So, I can understand why Clinton decided to look forward at that time - if Walsh kept going, it would have looked completely political.
However, I do agree that Obama should not have just looked forward - some people needed to get hung out to dry over Iraq. Even if you don't go after Bush, Cheney or Rumsfeld, there were others like Bolton, Wolfowitz, Feith and a few others that would have at least helped. And, the same with the financial crisis - lock up at least a few big names. Maybe those two actions help the base stay motivated so 2010 isn't a disaster at the ballot box?

(7,511 posts)I want to see a fully-funded independent, non-partisan voting rights commission created. I want to see statutes that require elected and appointed officials' compliance with Congressional subpeonas under penalty of law and removal from office for non-compliance. I want to see statutes that mandate judicial standards of conduct and provide for removal for political activities. I want to see all federal regulatory agencies removed from control of the Executive branch. And I want to see everyone's tax returns...I mean even the freaking dog-catcher.
Truman reshaped our modern government because it was antiquated and inefficient and it failed to serve the needs of the people. It's time to remodel the kitchen folks.
