Conservatives exist for the singular purpose of safeguarding their privilege. They abhor any form of egalitarianism. It has evidentially been conservative policy since the 1970s to exploit the working class. And yet many in the working class persist in voting against their own best interest. Look at Trump and look at Brexit. As things go tits up, the awful outcomes that are presenting themselves as we live through this moment in history, is 100% the fault of people who have voted for it.
Ironically, some of those most vulnerable to economic fluctuations are those who have brought this shit shower down on our respective heads.
For those who voted for Trump, for Brexit etc et al, I blame them, and I cannot bring myself to care about the suffering they will endure because of their choices. At this point, as they continue to defend their anti-democratic choices, one can happily say they have made their bed and they must lay in it, and while they may embrace that concept with glee I do not think they have a clue how bad things are going to get under our wannabe strongmen.
I predict riots
As already deprived areas are further disadvantaged cause conservatives, people will not blame the votes they took, but that will not stop them taking to the streets to voice their despair and despair it will be. I will say this, here in Brexit Land
for the first time in my tax-paying life, I will begrudge every single penny that has to be diverted from public services to feed those who voted Leave and who will inevitably suffer the consequences of that choice. But I can tell you one thing. It will not stop me saying I told you so.

(653 posts)If Facebook allows lies in their ads that's one thing, but for so many people to be taken in by these lies, which are clear lies is another.
It's the people.
The OP has a damn good point, I won't feel sorry for those who suffer for voting for their own suffering.
9 times out of 10, these people KNOW they are being lied to.

(43,134 posts)I never signed up for Facebook. Like you, never will. People are easily manipulated. Even offering them a choice of A or B can produce a different result than B or A, and make it A or not B and the not B's will take it.
The wrong hands can control the public with crowd behavior. Lemmings to the last.

(10,749 posts)I don't know how farmers in the UK voted on Brexit. But the farmers here voted for Trump. Ok, not all farmers. But the politically conservative folks in the flyover states. As much as they complain now, they will vote for him again. Because they are congenitally unable to vote for a Democrat. Or a woman. Or a person of color. Or a Jew. Or an Eastern liberal. Or someone who believes in women's rights. Or someone who wants to do something about gun control. So they'll suffer economically, they'll lose their farms, rather than vote, for once, in their own interests.

(17,187 posts)... to exploit the working class. There was a mild hiccough there after WWII, because they were so terrified of Communism they were willing to make a few concessions, but it seems clear to me they were just waiting the chance for a solid counter-revolution.

(6,423 posts)Even at $23/hr that's not a great existance after taxes.
Meanwhile, trying to pretend $15 an hour increase spread over years to get there, is enough, while cost of just getting by goes up up UP!
