They have been poisoned by trumpism. Their brains eaten away to the point of being a clear and present danger to America, democracy and the world at large.
They care only for their own aggrandizement. All others can go to hell as far as they are concerned. They have encouraged lawlessness, violence and hate.
They also recognize the oncoming tsunami of voter retribution about to sweep them away. Witness the numerous republicans who are declining to run for re-election. They know what is going to happen. The remaining republicans may have a much greater plan in the works. A plan which requires the literal eviscerating of democracy and common societal norms to retain power.
Anyone who thinks republicans wont destroy that which they see as their Devine right to keep doesnt understand what is occurring right in front of our eyes now. They would rather America be a smoking hole than see it an empire of equality, justice and fairness. They see no place for themselves in such a society...and they are correct.
Be forewarned; they will not abide they possibility, let alone the reality, of a successful Democratic Party taking the reigns of power.

(9,417 posts)I have thought this too. Like a fight between good and evil. We all have a dark part of ourselves that we have to fight with and deal with, but the republicans are going full tilt toward giving rein to a darker side, selling their soul for certain rewards of money and privilege. I suppose this fight has been going on since the dawn of mankind, but stakes are bigger now. trump represents unbridled depravity.

(11,561 posts)The ends justify the means - any means. They are a party that no longer believes in or practices democracy and is a grave error to ever give them the benefit of the doubt, as there is no reasoning with zealots and psychopaths. In their book, fair play is for suckers.
