excerpts of Vice President Biden's remarks at Lordstown, OH, Friday Aug 31, as prepared for delivery and released via email by the Obama campaign:
You heard Congressman Ryan on Wednesday night, blame the closing of a GM plant in his hometown of Janesville on the President.
Folks, lets look at the facts.
Congressman Ryan was right about one thing. It was devastating for the community and those people.
But what he didnt tell you was that plant in Janesville actually closed while President Bush was still in office.
And what they didnt say is, but for the sacrifices you made, and the courage of the President, all those GM plants would have closed.
The 200,000 auto workers whove been added to the employment rolls would not be working. And a million jobs would have been lost.
GM wouldnt have been reorganized. It would have been liquidated. Along with Chrysler.
And as the Chairman of the Board of Ford told me, without a reorganization, they would have been devastated too because the supply chain would have evaporated.
What they didnt say is because of the auto rescue, there are 4,500 of you working here today. And GM is adding 2 shifts.
And GM just announced theyre investing another $200 million in Lordstown.
And combined, the auto companies have committed to invest billions in expansion, not the Bain way, not in Mexico, not in China, not in Vietnam, but in Lordstown, in Detroit, in Toledo, in Cleveland. In America.
And what they didnt acknowledge is Governor Romneys position was Let Detroit Go Bankrupt.
He said if we stepped in to help, GM would be the living dead.
You know, he is absolutely against the federal government or any government using funds to save jobs, to save industries.
Its bad business, he says.
Except when it comes to his business.
Let me quote from recent reporting: Romney was willing to go to extremes to secure a federal bailout when Bain Consulting was on the verge of collapse.
The way they reorganized cost the government $10 million.
Imagine that
It was one thing when a million middle class jobs were on the line.
It was another when his own financial interests were on the line.
Andnowthey say they care about the middle class?
watch excerpt of speech (everything but the bain bailout hit ... I'll post more later when I find it):

(4,835 posts)Seems a little silly to say that 'we built this' with news like this floating around.
The way they reorganized cost the government $10 million.
Does anyone have more information on this?

The Federal Bailout That Saved Mitt Romney - Gov docs show legend crafted by Romney basically a lie

I hear a lot from conservatives on Facebook that Bain/Romney didn't get help from the government.
This demonstrates that is not the case.

(14,350 posts)Oh sure, you say you have the unions' backs, but the administration has been actively working against teachers from the get-go. Let's fix that next, Joe.

(14,350 posts)Arne Duncan, the Sec/Ed, has been one of the most anti-teacher secretaries in memory. Obama's Race to the Top is worse than NCLB by a long shot, including in it that all teachers have to be evaluated on student test scores when even their own data shows that to be wrong. There's an NEA group on FB with more info: https://www.facebook.com/groups/161754330559955/

The choice for VP could not get any better.
