(9,090 posts)that's what's s so stupid about all of this - it keeps happening over and over and 'left' doesn't get it. all other major media - TV, social media, print, internet- is a wash, part of the free speech spectrum in a democracy. talk radio is the only medium where they have complete dominance - and it is ignored and the MSM and political leadership give a few hundred think tank coordinated liars way too much political weight just because they are loud and coordinated and it is excluded from the activism that would force media to monotor, factor, acknowledge it and poll for it

(15,642 posts)find a liberal station. Tuning across the range you get literally 10s of RW talk shows, many of them brazenly radical, and nary a liberal broadcaster. They own the airwaves and have for a couple or more decades now. Its not about demand. In this case, its about supply and a continually growing over abundance of it, literally guaranteeing that almost everyone who listens to talk radio ultimately listens to RE propaganda.
How and when are we going to recognize and fight that? Does the Democratic Party have a strategy? In war, when the enemy is operating on the basis of strategy and you are not, who do you will win?

(2,312 posts)PNS is a radio news service that works to produce news packages on certain "liberal" topics such as climate, health and wellness, and justice (strange we have to label those as "liberal" and then distributes them to stations around the country, especially AM radio stations that are usually dominated by Rush, Hannity, etc.
The goal is to get the stations to run the pieces as part of a regular newscast at the top of the hour.
PNS has bureaus in 38 states, including lots of red states.
When I was at the University of Colorado, some of my students produced pieces that eventually became packages on PNS and were distributed in stations all across Colorado and into New Mexico, Wyoming and Utah.
Those stories are a piddling puddle in an ocean of disinformation, yes, but it's a start.
Here's PNS' website if you want to hear the packages and read about what they're trying to do.
PNS is funded by national foundations so they don't have to charge stations to use their work.

(9,090 posts)pester it but it has to be destroyed soon if we're going to have a democracy. just look at the crap happening now and know that all those 1500 radio stations will be blaming the 'deep state' democrats helping obama and clinton with their coup
artificial intelligence-enhanced transcription, which makes it easy to digitize, analyze, and list advertisers and enable americans to destroy the RW talk radio monopoly w/market demand - it's not enough to vote, GOTV, donate.
artificial intelligence makes it easy, cheap to digitize talk radio - the ad industry will do the work once they become aware of how easy it is for activists to record, transcribe, and list advertisers with hardly any listening required.
talk radio is the only unique advantage they have. at $1000/hr 1200 stations x 15 hrs/day is worth about $5BIL/year FREE to them - and the kremlin trolls piggybacking it.. they know how important it is and democratic and media leadership clearly think it's irrelevant. it should not be considered part of the free speech spectrum as long as it is a well protected and coordinated monopoly. destroying the talk radio propaganda operation will help on every level, every issue, every election.
it wouldn't take much activism for the ad industry to get the message it has to start asking radio ad clients if they REALLY want to support the global warming denial, racism, hate, and ignorance
RW has perpetuated the myth that the monopoly is a reflection of the market demand for hate and lies ---advertisers will head for the hills and many stations will have to change programming to stay alive
and it wouldn't hurt for students and communities to start protesting anything trump at the 88+ universities that broadcast sports on 260 limbaugh stations. those schools need to be asked what they would do if the KKK bought those stations, because basically they did 20 or 30 years ago

Whistle-Blowers Complaint Is Said to Involve Multiple Acts by Trump
The complaint goes beyond a commitment that President Trump was said to have made to a world leader
WASHINGTON A potentially explosive complaint by a whistle-blower in the intelligence community said to involve President Trump was related to a series of actions that goes beyond any single discussion with a foreign leader, according to interviews on Thursday.
The complaint was related to multiple acts, Michael Atkinson, the inspector general for American spy agencies, told lawmakers during a private briefing, two officials familiar with it said. But he declined to discuss specifics, including whether the complaint involved the president, according to committee members.
Separately, a person familiar with the whistle-blowers complaint said it involves in part a commitment that Mr. Trump made in a communication with another world leader. The Washington Post first reported the nature of that discussion. But no single communication was at the root of the complaint, another person familiar with it said.
The complaint cleared an initial hurdle when Mr. Atkinson deemed it credible and began to pursue an investigation. But it has prompted a standoff between lawmakers and the acting director of national intelligence, Joseph Maguire, who has refused to turn it over to Congress, as is generally required by law. It has become the latest in a series of fights over information between the Democratic-led House and the White House.
So let's say Trump tries shaking down Zelensky, Zelensky doesn't give in to his threats, then Trump talks to Putin and mentions the conversation and tells Putin there will be no consequences if Putin ramps up military action in Ukraine.
Just a guess.

Not to forget that it would be collusion. Or rather, COLLUSION. Conspiring with a foreign power to interfere in American elections.
