Which do you think she'd prefer?
She likes grape.

(175,731 posts)Not at all bad, but the thought of actually smoking one of those would put me off grapes for the rest of my life.

(175,731 posts)The kids at a graduation party I attended this summer were drinking stuff like that. Fortunately, it was high school and not grade or middle school. Plus, the parents were paying for their kids' Ubers home.

(31,261 posts)I approve of responsible parents introducing their kids to alcohol, in restaurants and at home, I think that would help reduce binge drinking by young people. But I don't see moralists approving of such societal changes.

(175,731 posts)The legal age here is 21. Fake IDs are easy to buy, or so I'm told, and much better in quality than the one I had.
Anyway, I'm not one to condemn because I was the kid who drank my godmother's straight-up martini on my 2nd birthday.

(31,261 posts)got insanely drunk. I came within a vomit (I threw up and that may have saved me), or a few more gulps of the stuff to end up in the hospital and on a stomach pump. Never touched the stuff after that.
The thing about alcohol for me is that if I drink it slower, I don't like the taste at all. That day that I got drunk, I was poured a glass and basically drank it down like water on a hot day (it did burn my throat some, but not enough for me to not treat it as a liquid, plus I chased it with some water), I did not fully get the nasty taste until it was all in my stomach, then I threw up.

(175,731 posts)You must have bad memories after that experience. I don't remember the martini, of course. My parents said that I was fine afterwards and slept really well that night.

(31,261 posts)On edit:
Maybe since it is the only thing I remember, I was a puking drunk. Just as well that I swore off alcohol, with a tendency to get slosh-faced and puke afterward, I would have ended up looking like something in a crypt in an Indiana Jones movie by now.

(32,079 posts)The grape and other fruit flavors and the cartoons make that stuff more attractive to the kiddies. Easier to get them hooked that way.

Hopefully, the grape gummies, they sound delicious.

(7,143 posts)But there is currently a push to ban only one of those products. In fact, there's a push to legalize one that is currently subject to bans throughout the country.
It's for the kids, ya know.

(31,261 posts)If so, I must say that I have mixed feelings. If kids are taught to drink alcohol responsibly from a young age, I believe that binge drinking in their teens and later would likely be less commonplace because alcohol would have lost it's forbidden fruit appeal to them.
