BREAKING NEWS ON "WORLDWIDE CLIMATE STRIKES"

If your co-worker or classmate isn't around today, it may not be because they're getting an early jump on the weekend. They could be on strike. Global climate strikes are taking place today all over the world, with people walking out of workplaces and classrooms to demand action to address the climate crisis. It's expected to be the biggest day of climate demonstrations in history.

From CNN's Dakin Andone

The organizers of today's climate strike say the crisis will most directly affect young people. But that doesn't mean it shouldn't be an issue on everyone's minds. They want allies.

What they want: Strikers are also demanding "climate justice" to cast the climate crisis as not just an environmental issue, but also an ethical obligation.

The hope is the strikes will show world leaders that it's not just young people who want climate change to be addressed.

"September's climate strikes will kickstart a huge wave of action and renewed ambition all over the world," organizers say.

According to the New York Times: U.S. seeks to penalize San Francisco: President Trump said the city would be issued a notice of environmental violation because of its homelessness problem, citing used needles that were ending up in the ocean.

Like many of us, I have succumbed to the new "opiates of the masses," online writing and television viewing.

Writing scathing OPs about Teflon Don or reporting on Climate Change, makes me feel better; but does it really help resolve the problems?

These young protesters are making news, instead of reading, watching or reporting important events.

We are in a gigantic experiment which gambles our very existence on the outcome.

Scientists have been warning us for decades. Some people think it's like predicting rain or snow; it's not. There will be surprises.

I just hope the polar bears, elephants, whales, and the Amazon rain forest outlive me.

And, although I'm a senior, I will see more devastation from Climate Change.

Right now, we are living during a mass extinction, which surpasses the Chicxulub Event, when most dinosaur species vanished.

Ashland and Bayfield Counties are known Democratic strongholds.

Ironically enough, isn’t that what they say when the boat’s sinking? “Women and children first.”

That’s who will lead America to its survival.

So although it looks impressive, what will it really accomplish?
I remember the first Earth Day 50 years ago next year and had that worked as it should would we be where we're at now?

We might moderate global climate change, I doubt it, but we should spend as much time and energy in preparing to deal with its negative consequences rather than waiting until the wolf is at the door and it's too late although I doubt that will happen either.
