Shades of nineteen seventy-four.
And dear boy, you weren't even BORN then.
But those words are music to the ears of us ancients who remember Rose Mary Woods...

(2,067 posts)Frankly with the media's and American people's track record of being easily distracted, he'd be a fool not to.

(58,785 posts)The case of The People v not just Trump but top Republicans and appointees grows.
It's possible that Trump's attempt to extort cooperation from Ukraine isn't even what the whistleblower filing is about. Does anyone believe all of Trump's and other Republicans' crimes and massive breaches of ethics are known?
I'd be interested in knowing just when our party leaders were first aware of this particular aspect of Trump-Ukraine. It's actually likely that some information leaked through friendly contacts in Ukraine, for instance, before this filing.

(4,291 posts)With a daily barrage of revelations about his gross incompetence, self-aggrandizement, and outright treason, are not the pussy ass bitch and his entourage counting on us plain folk losing track of one atrocity after another. And another. And another.
Until we become numb to it all. That might not have been part of the overall scheme of his idol, Adolf Hitler, but Herr Schicklgruber didnt have Twitter and Faux Gnus available. The PABUS may be too senile or stupid to avoid treasonous or merely criminal actions, but at least he surrounds himself with enough sycophants in positions of power to shield him. At least temporarily.

(9,128 posts)He needs to convince Nancy Pelosi and the rest of his colleagues in the House.
As Mr. Swalwell noted six weeks ago, the Mueller Report has already laid out everything necessary to introduce articles of impeachment against Trump.

(43,123 posts)We have made miles of progress in a few days. This incident is tangible, understandable, with definite statutes that apply. It's not a judgment call, it's collusion/obstruction in plain sight, probably in addition to what attorney Jeremy Bash said yesterday - extortion, conspiracy - all rolled into one. Asking a foreign government to invesigate your opponent may be a bridge too far for even a few Republicans.
The whistleblower is a true patriot, some saying it's Dan Coates and his assistant. The Republican party may have discipline like no other, but they also are not a monolith, there are disagreements that fester and norms that harken back to their more patriotic past.

(33,284 posts)without that testimony, it's he said/off the record said. concentrate on forcing disclosure - and judicial directives is what it will take.
we need that person to testify in congress.

(804 posts)the House should get a "Writ of Mandamus". It is "an order by a court to a lesser government official to perform an act required by law which he has refused or neglected to do." That should be served on the "acting" DNI making him turn over the report to Congress. I am not sure if this would work. If it had any chance, you would think the Intelligence Committee would have already tried this. Sorry I don't know how to link the comment, but it is on Twitter.
