The election of the Emperor Donald the Dangerous, and the coup by the far right in the UK can, in my opinion, clearly be linked to the lack of proper investment in education in low skilled low-income populations for at least the last 3 decades. Generally, low information voters tend to stay at home as they are generally unable to see the relevance of politics in their daily lives. The far-right populists in our nations were quick to recognise and exploit this. Using the media, social media and Russian troll bots to manipulate these cohorts was always an obvious play for these disruptors.
I would hazard a guess that interrogating the political beliefs of the average Chump or Brexit voter will only lead to the 3 second sound bites we have all come to despise

Yes. They are that shallow. Intellectually shallow voters lead to the bollocks we have in power at the moment.
It is almost like they had planned it

(38,311 posts)The history lessons I got in public schools during the 'sixties and early 'seventies, even here in "progressive" California, were bullshit.
There are still many kids who freak out on their first exposure to a "radical" college history professor, anyone who teaches U.S. history horrors and all, anyone who would ask why Andrew Jackson is on a twenty dollar bill, or why Trump would place Jackson's portrait in the Oval Office.
This is why Republicans hate any public education beyond simple reading and writing and arithmetic, the bare minimum required for a worker to function in conditions of wage slavery.
Wealthy "conservatives" want their workers to believe everything is as it's always been, that there's no such thing as evolution or progress in society, or even biology.

It's not fair to most Americans who believe in this country's potential, it's ideals, and have not conducted themselves in a deplorable manner... but... it is what it is...

There is work ahead to protect against against a hostile foreign country attacking our democratic election process. Lets not blame the victim. He did not win fairly.
