Not a typo -- that was forty-nine stats out of 50, including blue states.

Republicans, who were very disappointed in Nixon as far too progressive until the Democrats "attacked" their president, rushed passionately to his and their defense and reelected Nixon overwhelmingly in the middle of the investigation. And not enough Democratic voters were on board with the troublemaking impeachment investigation. The tapes -- hearing him speak obscenities -- somehow turned the tide when masses of other evidence hadn't.



The scenario on the right in this diagram, except it doesn't show enraged conservatives reelecting Trump, increasing its margin in the senate and regaining the house and state governments.
