General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsJust reading Twitter, it seems pretty clear that Speaker Pelosi will never countenance Impeachment
She has decided that since the GOP will never vote for it, its not in the partys best interests to force her vulnerable swing district incumbents to take such a divisive vote. Impeachment is a pipe dream that the leadership will never support and we need to focus all our energy on the 2020 elections instead to depose 45.

She will not allow it unless McConnell decides to champion the cause.

Akin to McConnell not bringing up gun safety legislation because Trump will not sign it.

(33,328 posts)If we avoid doing the right thing because corrupt Republicans do not support it, we then limit ourselves to doing only corrupt things.
If we choose political expediency over doing what is right, then we are emulating Republicans and give credence to the "both sides do it" mantra.
We need to do what is right.
Damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead.

The criticism is that the 5 minute rule was not in our favor. Lewendowski (sp?) filibustered the Dems for 5 minutes then a repub came up with their 5 minutes of bull shit.
Nothing got accomplished toward teaching the public about trump until the lawyer took over.
I will bet that if we get another witness to testify the 5 minute rule will not be in play. That's because we learned from our mistake!

(3,473 posts)I keep hearing about these vulnerable swing districts as the reason to not move forward on impeachment. Didn't they get elected in 2018 to be a check on Trump? Now they aren't going to do the job people came out and voted for them to do because it might cost them their seats?
It seems like being elected indicates they have the support to be that check on Trump.

(3,363 posts)Twitter is exploding at Pelosi for refusing to support impeachment. My own family is ready to stop being a registered Democrat and switch to Independent.
All Pelosi is doing right now is making Dem voters who worked their butts off to put Dems in power in the House last year realize their efforts were meaningless and there is no point in voting in 2020.

You should care because it shows that you and Nancy's position on giving trump a pass is untenable and, if not reversed and soon, will backfire next fall. The base cannot and will not ignore that trump is committing crimes. That's called complicity.

Impeachment is a tightrope right now. I understand the caution. I suspect the idea is to totally focus on 2020 and if he is reelected then go with impeachment. If he loses 2020 let NY state get their crack at him.

To say Pelosi lacks courage is naive at best. Why do you think the GOP hates her so much.
She doesn't fear them or people thinking that she's "old."

Well, hopefully, no one still needs a coast-to-coast warning from the National Hurricane Center to notice something's happening. For now, some of what's happening,
1. Pelosi's called for a meeting of all related committee heads this morning.
2. At 4 o'clock she's called for a meeting of the entire house membership, but she spent the past few days calling them to sound them on support.
3. Many leadership aides now say Trump's impeachment is almost inevitable.
4. Adam Schiff, after discussion and agreement with Nancy, announced this weekend that impeachment may be inevitable.
5. Nancy's longtime close friend and ally, Rosa Delauro, has called for "decisive action," which she would never do if Nancy didn't want her to. she used the world investigation, though.
5. The 7 freshman Dems with backgrounds in national security who just spoke out are in RED AND PURPLE districts. They're among many in the caucus whom Nancy's been protecting from being hurt by the impeachment issue, but now they've put themselves out there.
Best to avoid over-reaction while we see how this plays out, though. Those already settled into surrender should probably just stay put for some while to avoid further emotional damage. The bumpy ride isn't over by any means.
