What's riskier, being rich and having a safety net, or poor and living in a dangerous neighborhood and being shot at? (paraphrasing)
MHP has some financial expert, so-called, on her show, and said expert keeps rolling her eyes at the other guests.
MHP- I you!
On, edit- the conservative financial expert was saying that rich ppl "take risks" with their money; gotta cut social programs because we have a large debt- gotta make those hard choices, etc etc etc.

(12,939 posts)Good. Nor should she apologize. These conservatives have been slinging that BS now for decades- time to call them on it without apologies.

I was hoping Melissa would do something about that thing's ugly lies.

(1,920 posts)repeatedly, while making her point, I would have been OK with that hand having slipped sideways in the direction of that repug's face. And I'm generally a non-violent person.
that woman was beyond annoying- interrupting, rolling her eyes, opening them wide in mock surprise at others' rational points.

(6,089 posts)why do we need to hear this bullshit and lies from these hacks - if I wanted to watch this shit I can watch fox.
Don't have these people on - don't even give them a platform.
this woman was so offensive, I had to turn the show off..

(12,939 posts)Oh, wait- everything on the news is the conservative POV.
Well, at least she scared her quiet, esp with the hand-slapping thing!

That's what happened here, thanks to MHP and her other guests.

(154,021 posts)You go cover a labor story and somehow we need to balance it with business There are times that news stories are not truly balanced. That is why. American media has been trained to believe that is "balance." Give the other side ALWAYS, their say. Never mind that the other side tries hard not to.

(41,984 posts)I'm not sure she was talking about the storm but I think she was. She's lost a lot and been worried re friends and family, and that's mighty hard conditions under which to hear someone equate their risk of losing a little investment money with those who are one good drowning away from losing it all.
My thoughts go out to Melissa, and to everyone who's suffering.

(4,847 posts)then offer a DESPICABLE solution. It's like they created the problem on purpose to funnel our money to their corporate, wealthy friends and then, HEY SORRY NO MORE MOOLAH MUST CUT FROM THOSE POOR SAPS, mmm I mean, good patriotic americans, that we SCREWED!!!!
Ooooh, they're so worried about the deficit that they created, while giving themselves and the wealthy a nice tax break. reagan increased the deficit about 128% and little boots over eighty percent, but they're so fekkin worried about it. and their solution? Is cutting anything for those who are going down the crapper and really need help; while still funneling what's left to their even wealthier damn friends!!!!
it's getting downright obscene watching these sociopaths peddling the same shite and still thinking that all of the american people are so damn gullible.

(47,483 posts)and it brought tears to my eyes. I know the kind of poverty she was talking about and it is so rare for anyone to advocate for the poor. Basically people want to pretend the poor don't exist and if that isn't possible, blame them for their situation, as if it was a choice.

(16,230 posts)That is a great response to the whole "wealthy people take risks" talking point.
I wish she hadn't apologized but I suppose she had to. She really blew up!
I would have a hard time not blowing up at people spouting that kind of nonsense.

(53,235 posts)talking about being deserving and rewarding risk. MHP nailed the real risk in America--and in the world. The riskiest socio-economic class to be born into is The Poor. Every day is a risk.

(5,810 posts)while surfing around here and other places. I had watched UP with Chris Hayes and saw her show come on so stayed tuned in. Was listening to the banter around the table. Getting really annoyed with the obvious "conservative balance" present on the show, but not surprised she was there. Also getting really sick and tired of their tactic of talking over other guests and the host of the shows. It is a strategy used effectively to eat up time and drown out other points of view.
So I was innocently sitting here, watching my computer screen with one eye, the TV going in the background when all of a sudden I notice that Melissa is about to explode. I thought, "Whoa!" what has set her off today??? She is usually so calm and rational and this was off the scale. Then I finally connected that she was responding back to her conservative guest who had done all of the things others have mentioned in this thread......eye rolling, shaking her head, interrupting and going long in order to get HER point of view out there. Guess Melissa couldn't take another second of it after the week she has had.
Working long hours, worrying about family and friends in New Orleans, losing the property she hopes to rebuild into her dream house and dealing with assholes like the talking head on her show. No wonder she lost it!
Good for you, Melissa. NO apologies needed, except I guess to the powers that be so you can keep your job. Your viewers still love you and were more than a little bit happy that you showed your human side.

(103,856 posts)That woman drives me NUTS.. She's NEVER met a republican idea she didn't love..
I hope that Melissa never invites her again..and if Melissa does not have the power to pick her guests, I'm sad
More and more, EVERY show seems to have a Michael Steel/Monica type included. "Fair & Balanced" with nonsense does nothing to advance discussion. It only serves to irritate/aggravate & annoy.
C'Mon MSNBC (or whatever they call themselves these days), be the first kid on the block to identify & get rid of the false equivalency crap.. Let the ;liberal hosts BE liberal.. Save the rightwing ringers for the "Pick on Mika Show"..
