This is what it is going to take to put this conservatives in their place! To have the notion that the poor or those relying on the safety net do not live risky lives is devoid of any decency to take care of those who need it.
When is the media going to get some spine like MHP and call these false mouth pieces for the right and expose them for what they are? I am sick and tired of these so called conservatives trying to dominate the air waves and dictate that their way of thinking is the right way for the rest of us.

On her show Saturday morning, MSNBC host Melissa Harris-Perry grew visibly frustrated over a guest’s assertion that the “big thing” missing in the President’s “you didn’t build that speech” was an emphasis on taking risks, raising her voice and slamming down on her desk as she gave an impassioned rebuttal insisting that, no, the real risk is in being poor in America.

“What is riskier than living poor in America?” Harris-Perry demanded. “Seriously! What in the world is riskier than being a poor person in America? I live in a neighborhood where people are shot on my street corner. I live in a neighborhood where people have to figure out how to get their kid into school because maybe it will be a good school and maybe it won’t. I am sick of the idea that being wealthy is risky. No. There is a huge safety net that whenever you fail will catch you and catch you and catch you. Being poor is what is risky. We have to create a safety net for poor people. And when we won’t, because they happen to look different from us, it is the pervasive ugliness.”

I'll bet WalMart put half of those under water.

This is what I don't get. As an entrepreneur You swear by a Darwinist's form of capitalism and it eats you alive. Sure there is risk from starting a small business. The risk is that a huge mega corp will do one of two things:

1) Use you as an outlet for their product and force you to abide by their vision of what your business should be as well as dictating the prices for selling "their" product. You take the financial risk for selling "their" product. If your supplier fails at the national level, you fail at the local level.

2) View you as a small competitor and squash you like a gnat. They have the resources to undercut, outproduce, and out market you. They get the benefit of being large so that politicians will provide "incentive" to lure them in to your community and declare they are creating jobs yet not reveal the potential impact on existing small business in the community.

There is a hell of a risk to start a small business and even if you are good at it, you have to consider that it is the same OWS 1%ers that appear to be the culprits behind making a good entrepreneur either fail or become their puppet.

thrive on. Small business owners tend republican, and love Walmart. Many redstaters hate the federal government, and yet receive much more benefit from it than people in the blue states. And so on.

if you haven't watched it. it's meaty. i'll be watching her closely from now on.i actually had not been all that impressed with her when she guest hosted rachel's show, but i think she's really grown into being on camera, she's much more comfortable and it shows. and her politics of course mirror mine so her eloquence is a thing of beauty.

Thanks to those who posted a link to that segment.

Her response to the RW Hack was a righteous one and the way she talked about the risk poor people face is spot on and what needs to be said.
