As a life-long Michigander, what pence did on Mackinac Island makes me sick.

No goddamned respect for ANYTHING. And the Mayor should've said no.

Cars have been banned on Mackinac Island since 1898. So what does idiot Pence do? Shows up in an EIGHT-vehicle motorcade.

No one in Trump's administration has a damn bit of respect for anything.

Paul Egan

@paulegan4
Vice President Mike Pence leaves the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island Saturday in an eight-vehicle motorcade — the island’s first ever.

I went to Mackinac for the first time a couple of weeks ago. Cars are not necessary there. The roads are not built for them.

The carriages that take people to the Grand Hotel are quite elegant. They would be appropriate for Queen Elizabeth or
Michelle Obama.

Pence is a whiny little man just like his boss and mentor.

He may not be wealthy himself, but his connections with true wealth put him on an entirely different plane. Anyway, in a world where plumbers vote and live in greater luxury than the old "bourgeoisie" ever did and where people who count their wealth in hundreds of millions can only try to imagine what it's like to count your wealth in tens of billions, I really think socialists need new terminology.

But agree this is stupid arrogance to the nth. It'll bit him.

My brother-in-law used to race in the "Big Mac". Stayed at the Grand Hotel. Got to see The Northern Lights. That island is a kind of magic place.

So when I read your post title, my immediate thought was "So what did that idiot do, bring a car?" No, that would have been simply ignorant. And this administration doesn't do anything small, so of course he would bring a motorcade.

I'm a little surprised and kind of disappointed that the ferry company brought them over. Back in the day, Nixon's brother tried to get reservations at a restaurant in SoCal that didn't take reservations. He told them they didn't understand, this was RICHARD Nixon, POTUS. He was told, "No you don't understand. We don't take reservations." I miss that shit. Although Moscow Mitch getting harrassed in restaurants is kind of nice.

When I was a ticket agent at National Airport in Washington, DC, lo these many years ago, I would ten-minute time rule U.S. Senators and CAB Board members.

Back then the rule was if you weren't at the ticket lift position ten minutes before departure time, your reservation could be considered cancelled and you'd have to rebook. We would do that to protect ourselves from oversales, but also sometimes because the ticket counter was a fifteen minute walk from our gates.

And yes, I had more than one unhappy Senator in front of me. I only did it once to a CAB board member.

Pence claimed that triple crown winner American Pharoah bit him on the arm. He said they let him hold the multi-million dollar
stallion's reins and the horse then bit him so hard Pence almost passed out. I can't imagine them letting a stranger handle the reins
of such a valuable animal and management said that it never happened.

assume they're mostly just defending Pence/Trump.

Attitude toward equality is the single biggest natural (political) difference between liberals and conservatives. Conservatives tend to feel social hierarchy and privilege are both right and natural, that people earn and deserve their level of society. It's equality that doesn't ping with them. All men are created with equal rights just doesn't feel right to them.

Being a born liberal, I was very surprised to learn that conservatives accept being less privileged than others as normal and appropriate, just as much as they accept being privileged over those lower in the hierarchy.

Pence is way up the privilege scale. If there's road damage, some will not resent paying the taxes that repair that at all, even if it means less left for meeting their own needs.

Btw, I love that person who wouldn't give Nixon a reservation, and I'd bet my checking account he or she was NOT conservative, and not for political spite.
