This dullness of wit is where the right wing excels...
One of the things that history tells us is that in times of uncertainty nations have a tendency towards insular protectionism. Natural and mild nationalistic tendencies become something more sinister. Fear of the other, the bogeyman, the less understood or the different almost seems to overwhelm, particularly for those whose familial heritage has demonstrated a pattern of living within exclusive communities, those whose familial heritage has bigged them up to be something inherently superior to others around them and those, quite frankly who think that the state owes them, that they, by design right, should be the ones in charge. They were born and raised to think they are superior, and to think yourself superior, you must think others inferior.
A lazy mind will always seek the easy path and following the dictates of your ancestors is a much easier path to take than standing up for truth and social justice. Conservative minds are very lazy indeed. This dullness of wit is where the right wing excels, but instead of owning their lazy racist proudly, they lie about their racism. Deep down they know that whatever their Momma and Poppa taught them at the cradle of white supremacy, that it is not really on. So, they lie. They dissemble; they project the blame onto the victim. Shot while being black and walking down the street, he MUST be a thug and criminal, repeat it often enough and such deceit has an impact. The insincerity and fraud of pretending to accept immigrants – if they come LEGALLY DAMMIT (otherwise lock them in cages), when what they mean is that those that can afford to come from the old country are welcome; after all they look JUST like them. Beating up people from minority communities, is proclaimed as a necessary protection of the people who look just like them, rather than what it is, unacceptable violence in a civilised world.
BUT….BUT….we are not racist they cry. Yeah, right you are, NAZI’s… *rolls eyes*.
