But your question gets to the heart of the matter.

Since he will not be removed from office there is only one thing to consider when deciding to impeach or not. Which course of action improves our chances in 2020? No other factor logically matters.

And good people can and have reached different conclusions to that question.

From my standpoint, impeachment is all about evicting Republicans from the White House. I honestly believe Labor Day was the cut-off for beginning the process of impeachment because I dont want it overstepping the Democratic primaries. At this point, it's all about winning 2020.

Mine, DU's, the media, Democrats, etc. It's already hard enough for our candidates to get through the noise. The impeachment process would amp things up by ten. The Speaker knows this. And I'm not so Trump wouldn't relish the war.

Ssuccessful Impeachment st this point would need to be over a clear, tangible, non-circumstantial offense that even Republicans would have to accept happened.

The Republican Party has shot itself in the head with this idiot. And I see very few if any of the Republicans coming out against Trump..that is another shot in the head...WE WILL NOT LOSE IN 2020.

I'm not sure impeachment (or more accurately, impeachment hearings) would make little difference even assuming republicans refuse to remove him.

That said, given that impeachment won't result in removal, perhaps it's not the right question to ask in the first place.

At that point, whether Trump was impeached or not wouldn't matter, since the Senate is not going to convict him one way or the other.

Instead of trying to get people angry at Pelosi, why aren't you calling your representatives and your senator?

Description: When only two choices are presented yet more exist, or a spectrum of possible choices exists between two extremes. False dilemmas are usually characterized by “either this or that” language, but can also be characterized by omissions of choices.

the Democratic party is going to lose many voters in 2020, not just for POTUS but top to bottom.

Not impeaching and losing in 2020 is worse.

Impeachment, even without Senate conviction, will add votes to Democratic candidates in the 2020 election.

This should be a no-brainer but we are not privy to all considerations.

I want Dems to be able to say they did everything they could in this situation. Not that they let Republican intransigence force them into abdicating their duty to the constitution.

It’s a much stronger case for the general election that you used the power you had than not.
