If you're too timid or politically-focused or cowardly or just don't give a shit about your oaths of office and your nation, then get the hell out and let someone else do the job.
How much more shit are you going to let this so-called "administration" get away with? How can you sleep at night? How much more empty bullshit do you expect us to put up with?
Either shit or get off the pot.

(4,187 posts)When people think the system is rigged and their vote won't count, they don't bother to vote. This is well understood, and widely known. The only true remedy against Trump is the vote. Why are you using Republican arguments designed to discourage people from voting?

(4,187 posts)Too many people stayed home last time for too many reasons. Some of them saw polls predicting that HRC would win, so they didn't bother to vote. Others thought HRC would win, and they wanted to teach the Democratic party a lesson by voting third-party or Republican. Yet others got a Facebook video that morning making Hillary out to be an evil and scary person, and they lost their motivation to vote. If every liberal makes sure they and their friends don't fall for any of this in 2020, Trump will be history, and we can then focus on trying to undo the damage. Democrats can pass laws to make sure no one can abuse American democracy again the way Trump did, requiring, for example, that every candidate for the presidency release ten years of tax returns before being allowed on the ballot. We just have to make sure we don't fall for Russian propaganda again.

(18,486 posts)Go through an awful lot of trouble to keep us from actually voting... And then they always vote themselves.
If they had it rigged, they wouldn't need to stop us from voting since it wouldn't matter and they wouldn't need to vote since it was already rigged.
But we always fall for the okie doke and then make it easier for them to steal it (or not need to steal it) when we don't vote.

(63,221 posts)A lot of people will stay home in 2020 because they are tired of Congress doing nothing in the face of corruption. At least if we act, people may be motivated to vote Democratic because we made the damn effort to stop these bastards.

If we had control of both houses, we'd be having a completely different conversation.

(4,187 posts)Mitch McConnell will claim that the Senate will never vote to convict, and so he will never bring it up for a vote. Then, Trump will claim victory, and his supporters will say he's been absolved. And he will continue to flout the law. How, exactly, will that help?

(21,034 posts)Those 2 points alone make it worth it, but the benefits are not exclusive to those two things.
If the Democratic Party won't fight for our values then Nader was right and there is no fundamental difference, at least in the outcome.

(9,116 posts)The House votes to impeach, the Senate tries the accused. I misspoke.
The point is it doesn't matter whether or not the Senate will find Trump guilty. Trying and failing can't hurt us any more than sitting on our thumbs currently is.

(4,832 posts)They are doing it by the book, building an airtight case.
They are still awaiting some key evidence - the Deutsche Bank Records and the tax returns, as they are winding their way through various court challenges. These are the smoking guns, not all the other stuff.
It would be best for the formal impeachment to start in November so that all the public hearings occur during election season. It will be very hard to run for election as a Republican after your president has been shown to be a Russian money launderer.
The more I read about how they are proceeding, the more comfortable I am with their pace.
See the twitter feed of Teri Kanefield for very good reporting on the process.

(4,832 posts)Some of these criticisms may be "Active Measures" planted by people who want to sow dissension among Democrats, perhaps causing them to jump the gun. Notice that every time Trump or his admin does something outrageous, everyone piles on Nancy Pelosi, demanding that she jump the gun.
The opposition would like to kneecap Nancy Pelosi because she is so quietly and discreetly effective at herding cats.
It is her super power.
Don't get discouraged - speak out whenever you see it happening.

(5,808 posts)if they do absolutely nothing about tRump and his corrupt administration. If all they do is dither and give us reasons why we cant do a damn thing at this time do they really think tRump will stop what he is doing? Do they honestly think things will get better?? If nothing else, what do they think will be their legacy in the history books?
Im shocked that were talking about the next election and yet the corruption from previous elections is still up for debate. Do the members of Congress really think that suddenly all the players will be honest and trustworthy during the 2020 campaign and election process?
Im fed to the teeth with all the delays and dithering. When the story broke last week about the whistle blower, I was expecting all hell to break loose. Instead we hear the same ol sh*t. A hearing a week later is mentioned. No hair on fire. Nobody staring bug eyed into the cameras. Just another day in DC. Pretty soon we will just tune them all out. They are playing such a dangerous game. They need to wake up because we, the people, are counting on you to do your job. We cannot do it for you. Thats why YOU were elected. To represent US.
Stop procrastinating. Do the right thing. Start impeachment ASAP. The people you represent turn our lonely eyes to you to rid us of this menace that was thrust upon on.
So right.

(6,199 posts)and especially to those who made thoughtful responses. I learn a lot from those.
However, my OP isn't just about impeachment. The last few months have been a sad collection of huge build-ups to nothing: the Mueller hearings, the Barr and Cavanaugh confirmations, and most recently the Lewandowski hearings. It's making them look like a bunch of lame ducks. And now all the rhetoric about T's phone call.
And yes it's mostly the GOP doing this, but it's all sounding so predictable: all sizzle and no steak. Empty rhetoric. More words by lawmakers. Yawn.
I'd love to see how the last couple of years would have played out as a football game, and how many people would be left in the stadium.

(9,895 posts)Impeachment is not about removal from office....so STOP with the BS talking points and hand wringing - leave that to the Senate (who have their own set of problems to confront)...IMPEACHMENT is the mechanism available to the House to hold a lawless Executive Branch to account. Full Stop. It is the investigation, the indictment if you will.
ANY member - From Pelosi to AOC - that is unwilling to tackle the hard choices and hold the hard votes or to do the uncomfortable things that the Constitution demands, should not have taken the Oath of office and if they still will not act now, they MUST RESIGN.
