This. Same old same old. He commits a crime. We are outraged. No one will hold him to account. He spins the story to his supporters and they buy it. We pound our heads against the wall in frustration. He moves on to the next crime. The Trump Cycle.

I'm not convinced we don't still have it, but it's true: when you get idiots like Ken Vogel getting air time to puff up a baseless story it throws our momentum. Let's simply not allow the focus to shift (or at least do our part not to allow it. We can't control what the idiot talking heads do.)

It really is up to the Dems to not drop the ball. But I do feel we still have the ball.

The people who want to hold Trump accountable are true, courageous patriots who are acting despite the potential political consequences, rather than cowering in the shadows.

It is times like these that separate the patriots from the cowards.

The media and trolls are working overtime to blame Democrats for the treasonous actions of Republicans.

Why is that? They want to destroy the Democratic party.

If Pelosi was the leader we needed, she, along with a public appeal to their constituents, would make them afraid of voting against impeachment.

We need an arm twister, like LBJ was when he was in Congress, not a hand wringer.

Its way past time to start real impeachment hearings. Public. Anyone who refuses to obey a subpoena, is jailed. Period.

Good line. 70% of Democrats want impeachment. We need our representatives to respect that along with the rule of law.

This is the reason he got out in front of this story with the deplorables - so he could set the narrative before the 'fake news' comes out with the truth. In order to maintain power he can't let his numbers drop with the base lest the senate loose their fear of being primaried out.

19. Impeachment is a legal procedure, not like being voted off the island
Mon Sep 23, 2019, 01:21 PM
Sep 2019

Here's the process in a nutshell.

1. President commits impeachable acts

2. House votes to initiate an impeachment inquiry - an investigation, kind of like Grand Jury
• For each impeachable offense, evidence is gathered, analyzed and judged whether it is sufficient to convict. There are no re-dos. You get one shot at it.
- This is occurring now, informally, under Jerry Nadler.
• Currently, evidence is still being subpoenaed, gathered and analyzed – Deutsche Bank records of money laundering, tax returns, testimony from various witnesses. You don't impeach before you have ironclad evidence.

3. House votes on Resolutions of Impeachment.
- Resolutions of Impeachment specify the criminal charges - the Articles of Impeachment.
- Articles of Impeachment must meet strict constitutional criteria, and convince 2/3 of the Senate to convict.

4. The House votes to Impeach.
- Requires majority vote. Right now, we are still short the votes.
- If they lose the vote, Trump is free to finish destroying democracy for Putin.

5. House appoints and funds "managers" - prosecutors to try the case in the Senate.
(Done - they are just waiting for the bat-signal)
- Daniel Goldman (former SDNY deputy chief of organized crime)
- Daniel Noble (former SDNY co chief of complex frauds and cybercrime)

6. President is served with a summons and the Articles of Impeachment.
- They get one shot at this. If they can't persuade the senate to impeach, bye bye democracy.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Senate Impeachment proceedings
• The Senate has the power to conduct a trial of the impeachment.
• The Chief Justice presides over the Senate trial and decides on procedures.

The impeachment Trial
1. Both sides present evidence, cross examine witnesses and present closing arguments.
2. At the conclusion of the trial, the Senate goes into closed session to deliberate.
3. The Chief justice calls for a vote
4. 2/3rds vote of the Senate is required to remove the president.
5. If Trump is removed before the 2020 election, Pence becomes president, then runs for reelection in 2020 and 2024.
->THIS IS WHY THE REPUBLICANS WOULD LIKE TO JUMP START IMPEACHMENT - another decade in power.

IOW, beware of people trying to push Nancy and the democrats to jump into impeachment too soon. If they succeed too early, we could get a President Pence until 2028. It's a trap. Don't go there.

We have to both win the case AND the election. Nancy knows this. That's why she is being so cautious.
