Embattled Pa. senator removed from appropriations committee in wake of report

Patriot-News

Senate Democrats on Monday took another step to limit Sen. Daylin Leach’s role in the chamber by removing him from the Senate Appropriations Committee and barring him from internal caucus discussion.

Leach, who had been the subject of sexual misconduct allegations which he strenuously has denied, previously was forced out as the ranking Democrat on the Senate Judiciary Committee.

Attempts to get a comment from Leach on Monday about his caucus’ punitive actions toward him were unsuccessful. During the Senate’s afternoon session, Leach sat at his desk in the chamber with his laptop resting on his legs being ignored by his fellow senators.

Senate Democratic Leader Jay Costa, of Allegheny County, last week renewed his call for Leach to resign following the release of the report from the Harrisburg-based law firm Eckert Seamans into allegations against the three-term senator. Although the law firm found no evidence of sexual harassment or a hostile workplace and didn’t draw any conclusions about a decades-old sexual misconduct allegation, it noted that the three-term senator’s humor was “unquestionably sexual in nature."
