What is stopping them from doing the right thing and calling Trump on his criminal antics?
Bottom line it's the Repug Party that will pay the price.

(3,363 posts)Republicans can't maintain their power if they lose the entire Republican base by turning on Trump.
A lot of them are also deep into the Russian corruption and there is probably tons of kompromat on them. Lindsey Graham and Mitch McConnell being 2 obvious ones.

(4,030 posts)They had a plan that began many years ago, and theyve followed through with it thanks to whats his name.......Trump. We havent, as you can see by nothing being done about ignored subpoenas months after the fact, and poor messaging on our part to convince voters to vote democratic. Our message is muddled. We cant even decide on what our talking points should be. Is it Trump and his lunacy? Is it environmental? Is it pro-choice? Is it fair elections? We best get a cohesive message well before next November, or this asshole will win again.

(13,255 posts)dream and desire they have been working toward for the last few decades. You name it, he has delivered it. Tax cuts for the rich, deregulation, courts packed with ultra-conservatives, decimate government agencies, hand public lands to corporations, etc etc. its obvious.

(27,813 posts)... looked great at first blush. But the piper is now demanding to be paid - and the price is staggering.
The traditional GOP talking points have now been destroyed. The party of fiscal responsibility, good Christian principles, and enduring family values is now the party of traumatized kids locked in cages, skyrocketing deficits, and a credibly accused rapist on the Supreme Court.
Thanks to Trump, the Republicans have destroyed their credibility with our allies, and have shown themselves to be
willing to lie, cheat and steal to win, and have demonstrated their spinelessness when it comes to standing up for their country in order to stand up to an ignorant fool instead.
While the GOPers might think they got what they paid for, the truth is self-evident. The price has been - among other things - having to defend the indefensible 24/7 since this idiot has been in office. It started with having to debase themselves by insisting that their "pResident's" inauguration was more widely attended than any other POTUS - all evidence to the contrary - to now defending his blatant attempt to pressure a foreign leader into interfering in our elections for his own personal political gain.
One way or another, Trump will be gone by January 2021, and the GOP will be left holding the bag - a bag full of lies, cover-ups, perjury, and a willingness to corrupt their own party's much-touted principles in order to protect a lying Dotard.
When all is said and done, this will not end well for the GOP.

(8,419 posts)They loved the piece of shit Palin in 2008. They are bad fucking people, Dems keep making the mistake thinking they aren't bad fucking people.
Excuses are always made, the latest issue will drive them to their senses. It won't, THEY ARE BAD FUCKING PEOPLE.
They had numerous off ramps in 2016, they took none of them. Dems need to wake up and realize what we are going against. tRump is a horrible piece of shit, he is a symptom, the cancer is the people who support him.

(7,365 posts)I figured the Republicans golden boy would be, a golden boy, an articulate speaker with a folksy charm and a pedigree of "intellectualism". W had the folksy charm, but was a dunce. St. Raygun was a great speaker with some charm, but also like W not intellectual. Cruz has the "intelligence" chops (I guess), but is about as likable as a root canal. I always thought their dream guy to push them over the edge was a guy with a little bit of St.Raygun, W with hell maybe resident Ivy league nitwit Ben Shapiro tossed in. They n ever really got that "perfect guy".
So what do they choose? An idiot. Who has zero folksy appeal, speaks like a drunken cat, and is really a huge jackass that EVEN REPUBLICANS tell me he's a dick. And THIS is who they hitch their wagons to?
