Next to my family's driveway, we have a small forested area leading into a large meadow. One of those trees had died in the year since we moved in but has been sturdy for the most part, although losing smaller limbs. I had been getting a little scary since it has apparently been leaning partway towards the house, but we've always put it off a bit.
Then the Isaac rain storm moved in yesterday.
My mom was sitting on the couch when the dog heard something outside. She looked out the door, but didn't see anything and thought nothing of it. When she took him outside an hour later, she found the source of the noise that he heard: a large limb of the tree had fallen off and landed directly behind our older car. We were lucky that it didn't land directly on it, but it does have a slight dent on the side that shows that it was hit. I'm just glad that a: the damage to our car was just cosmetic and B: most importanly, the entire tree didn't go and give my grandma a very rude awakening.
Needless to say we're calling tree companies this afternoon.

Broken windshield, nobody hurt. But that thing was hundreds of miles across.

(2,135 posts)But we don't really care that much about the cosmetic damage to the car (it's not that easily noticible and deep) and the cost of tree removal would likely be cheaper than our deductable.
