Even when you know it will be fruitless, sometimes you have to break the emergency glass of the procedural checks the country's founders put in place for situations less dire than this one.
You have to stop the denial, stop being fearful, stop paralyzing yourself and the country with endless political bullshittery.
Sometimes you have to look reality dead in its ignorant, cruel face and acknowledge it. Sometimes you have to solemnly accept that you and maybe the whole country might have to make sacrifices to protect something of real value. Sometimes you might even have to tell your constituents that- an awful thing to have to say to someone in a 1st World consumer society, I know.
Sometimes you need to re-affirm that truth has value. That can mean fighting against a tide of ignorance and lies.
Sometimes you just have to stop making excuses, and do what's right.

(12,801 posts)Period.
Rightwingers hated Obama, haaaaated him, but it all boiled down to policy priorities and politics (well, and racism); however, you couldn't deny he knew how to do the job.
Trump: no such luck.

(24,253 posts)run the country. His only value to them is he will sign anything they put in front of him without reading it, and will appoint anyone they tell him to. Anyone who thinks there is more to him than this is way over-thinking the situation.
For that they are willing to put up with all the bullshit he brings with him.
