I would love to see a poll right now on what the general public thinks of this Ukraine business.

Nancy Pelosi does not want to impeach Trump unless the general public is in favor of it because she is afraid of backlash in the presidential election. My hunch is it is not going to make any difference since most everyone has made up their minds about Trump, and he is not going to stop being Trump. However, I am not absolutely sure about that. It still scares me a little. If the public has moved in favor of impeachment, that changes everything.. Perhaps the Democratic Party has some internal polling showing that that is the case or, maybe it is close.

Impeaching Trump will not hold him accountable because the Senate is not going to convict him. The Department of Justice will not indict him. The only thing that is going to hold him accountable is an election. The reason for impeaching Trump is to lay down a marker for history saying that his conduct is unacceptable.

This is why the impeachment inquiry must be thorough, with at least Judiciary and Intelligence committees holding public hearings at least weekly, each. Suck the airtime away from twitler and tell people what he's been doing. By the time the bobble-heads on cable are finished "analyzing" a hearing, they can start yapping about the next one coming up.

Print press will keep on doing some excellent journalism. (Some, like NYT and WSJ, will continue substituting opinions for reporting scattered amongst some real reports).

The cult is with Тяцмр. The informed normal people are appalled. And most people have no idea what’s going on at all.

If the impeachment process doesn't get the American public on board, there's no hope for them.

"Real Housewives premiere tonight, you guys! OMG!"

There will probably be some polls on it soon but you know he's going to always have his 40%. I did see a 69% "don't like him personally" poll, but some of those people support his policies and will vote for him.

backing Trump than opposing him.

Right now you have Democrats in red districts afraid of a backlash voting them out. You also have Republicans afraid of being primaried by wingnuts.

Republican House members are "retiring" in record numbers because they are between the rock and the hard spot having to support a Trump they just can't deal with.

This Ukraine thing just might be the tipping point we have been waiting for.

The vast majority of people are not engaged by this sort of thing. They don’t watch the news or read a paper; they don’t peruse discussion boards or listen to talk radio. Ukraine just isn't an issue resonating with anyone outside political obsessives right now.

Trump tried to extort a foreign country to help him get re-elected by withholding money it desperately needs.

The media is framing the story in exactly those terms, adding that Trump has only his narrow interests, and not national interests in mind.
