Pence friend explains why he's part of an anti-Trump group criticizing the vice president

WASHINGTON — After Mike Pence lost a 1990 bid for Congress that was branded as one of the nastiest races in Indiana history, a friend offered some advice.

Peter Rusthoven, an Indianapolis attorney active in GOP politics who had worked for Pence’s political hero, Ronald Reagan, encouraged Pence to publicly apologize and see what the future brought.

In time, Pence won not just a House seat, but the governorship and the vice presidency.

But now Rusthoven is back with more advice.

An anti-Trump group that Rusthoven is part of, Republicans for the Rule of law, accuses Pence of hypocrisy for not objecting to foreign governments’ spending at Trump hotels after having criticized the Clinton Foundation for accepting donations from foreign governments when Hillary Clinton was secretary of state.
