September 24, 2019 Press Release
WASHINGTON, D.C. Today, U.S. Reps Haley Stevens (MI-11) released the following statement:
Over the last several days, I have been deeply alarmed by reports of serious abuse of power by President Trump. The President is alleged to have used the power of his office to pressure a foreign head of state for his own personal political gain. Furthermore, the Director of National Intelligence continues to illegally withhold information about this matter from Congress.
If investigations confirm recent reports, these actions represent impeachable offences that threaten to undermine the integrity of our elections and jeopardize the balance of power within the federal government.
I urge both the Judiciary Committee and Intelligence Committee to act quickly to independently investigate these matters as part of ongoing efforts to investigate numerous unethical and potentially illegal acts by the President and his Administration. These investigations must include whether the President used U.S. tax payer-funded military aid to Ukraine as a bribe to compel the Ukrainian government to act on his behalf.
I do not make this request lightly but rather out of a sober obligation to stand up for the rule of law and our national security.
