....proceeding starting as soon as the proper documents can be filed in the House.
What we've seen with respect to the Ukraine matter in the last few days is the straw that broke the camel's back. I suspect when the meeting this afternoon with all the House Chairs and Pelosi is over, we'll see a major announcement.

I'm sure they had a lot to present when the Representatives returned after Labor Day. Thankfully this Ukraine situation and Lewandowski's illegal refusal to answer questions last week have made the decision immensely easier.
The time has come!

(12,264 posts)She has information none of us have in terms of internal polling data etc. Now we have to do it, and we have to expedite it, do it rapidly, stop the grandstanding and get the job done.
With that said, there may be a price to pay, it may be the presidency, it may be that we lose the house and win the presidency which is a total loss. My guess is the rest of the country is not on board with this, but at some point we have to do what is best for our country, elections be damned.
I have finally reached the tipping point.

(67,782 posts)...Americans were against it. After the revelations of the hearings, even many of the republicans on the House Judiciary Committee voted for the Articles of Impeachment:
Obstruction of Justice - 27-11 (6 republicans voted yes)
Abuse of Power - 28-10 (7 republicans voted yes)
Contempt of Congress - 21-17 (2 republicans voted yes, two Democrats voted yes)

(12,264 posts)The problem is the current republicans are not even close to being as ethical as the ones who impeached Nixon. I did not see them as the enemy as much as I do this group.

(41,919 posts)Its always been timing. Also, actual proof not inference or conjecture or Internet opinion.
I hope people realize we are stuck with Trump until the election though.
It seems like the impeachment snow ball is starting to roll downhill for sure

Thank you Madame Speaker.
Its time
My personal belief is that impeachment was inevitable, and Pelosi of all people understood that. What some perceived as "weakness" was actually patience, and the appearance helps mitigate against the inevitable backlash from the large number of voters who don't like the thought of impeachment, voters the Dems are going to need in November 2020. She can now plausibly say "he forced our hand, he's become a national security threat."
Of course he was always a national security issue and she knew it. But her reported reticence to push for impeachment serves the Dems better than had she been screaming impeachment this whole time.

(2,356 posts)It's national security NOW. The entire lurid and dangerous Ukraine-related affair couldn't be clearer. It even affects security of our allies, if not the whole world.
Of course there's been plenty other malfeasance, dereliction of duty, election interference, $$$ corruption, self-serving-grifting and so forth, ad nauseam.
BUT NATIONAL SECURITY THREAT(S) BEING SERVED UP LIKE A PB&J?????? and WITH PUTIN IN THE JAM???? We may have hit :: priceless, at last.
There's the limit. And it's all the sweeter when the most recent (latest) congress critters to join the impeachment chorus are veterans of the intelligence community and/or the military community and willing to risk their political fortunes in their districts - not safe bets here!
