@JakeSherman

MCCONNELL has hotlined the resolution calling for the release of the whistleblower report. Schumer asking for unanimous consent for its passsage.

"Hotlining is the practice of bypassing regular Senate procedures and moving legislation through to a vote with little or no floor debate in an attempt to pass the legislation through the unanimous consent of all Senators"

McConnell probably detests Trump and if so, this could be the way to get rid of him. If he helps the Democrats get the whistleblower's report released, and it ends in Trump's impeachment, then McConnell could be free of Trump once and for all.

I've probably smoked something too strong!

17. Two reasons

Sep 2019

One, he has some inside knowledge about it, and thinks it won't hurt Trump if it comes out.

Two, there is still time to replace Trump at the top of the ticket if it is indeed his downfall. I have the impression that working with Trump is no picnic for McConnell, either. If Trump's finally shot himself in the foot with a mortal wound, it means that there will be a race on for the nomination, with the first caucuses and primaries a very short, but doable distance away. Remember that Bobby Kennedy didn't throw his hat into the ring until after LBJ officially dropped out of the running in 1968 a full quarter into the year.

Impeachment proceedings in the House that looked like they were going to go through would seal the deal. Trump could be convinced to take the Nixon path out of this, and Pence could give him a pardon, stopping the bleeding of the GOP. Any Republicon, even Pence, would seem normal after nearly three years of Trump, and McConnell would want that period to start ASAP.

Either there's something there, or there's nothing there, and Mitch wants to find out before continuing on his game plan.

And more debate will just give a platform for dems.

He’s counting on the next news cycle to wash this all away.

He sees it as inevitable that it will come out, and hotlining it allows it to go through without putting each and every Republican on the record with an individual vote.

Unanimous consent means they don’t have to stick their necks out. Trump would zero in on individuals, but maybe a united Senate will let him know he fucked up bigly.
