I remember being absolutely livid when Nixon did the Saturday Night Massacre, and I wondered at the time whether anything could be done to take him down. It took another ten months, but he went down. I still remember watching his resignation speech on a little black and white portable TV (which I kept for years as a souvenir) with absolute joy. I hope to experience that feeling again, the sooner the better.

The reason why people have been doing that is because in any "normal" time period where the institutions were doing what they were supposed to be doing, any number of the things Trump has done would have been "it" and politicians would likely have had to resign. I say that with some trepidation because of the history of Republican crimes regarding elections over the last 50 years beginning with Nixon in 68. He went behind Johnson's back and got the Vietnamese to withdraw from peace talks to get a "better deal" once Nixon was in office. Given the course of the election, he didn't really have to do that but he did it to make sure that the environment for the Democrats was poisoned by a continuing war. Imagine if LBJ had "not sought re-election" but made it the goal of his term to get out of Vietnam, and succeeded. The Democratic candidate would have benefited immensely. Nixon spoke to a foreign power, interfered with negotiations and prolonged the war another 5 years. Then Reagan did it with Iran. People in Reagan's campaign made a deal with a nation on the state sponsors of terrorism list, to sell weapons illegally in order to detain American hostages in Iran, for almost anther year so that Jimmy Carter could look like a failed President. That whole thing turned into the Iran-Contra scandal for which some people were going to prison, but which GHW Bush with encouragement from Barr, pardoned. W. Bush stole his election and lied us into two wars from which we have yet to fully withdraw.

None of these men faced any justice for their crimes. God, now I depressed again...

Anyway, yes we need to be cautious and not get carried away. The adage that "Power protects power" has a great deal of validity. Even the people getting screwed over don't necessarily want to see the king beheaded. They seem to want to see things get better without all the disruption that removing people from high office entails.

Way too many times, but eventually he has to step in the poo that he can't just shake off. This might be it.

We have been disappointed too many times before. Nothing will get me excited until he is either removed from office, convicted of the many crimes he is guilty of or six-feet under. Ideally, all three, in that order.
