I woke up and saw the news and I felt strangely sad. Because we should not be here now.

This unfit buffoon should never have been elected. After getting some coffee, here's what I sat down and wrote about it:

You might expect the news of an impeachment inquiry makes me happy but I am not jumping for joy. This is a sad day for America but a necessary one. The election of Donald Trump was a wrenching turn down a dark alley for this country. The very first thing this president did was to complain about his inauguration crowd size being reported too small. I say to you: This MAN is too small to sit in our White House.

I do not know why Republicans fell in love with him other than he was the very opposite of what Barrack Obama was, but it was verifiable fact that his introductory effort at wooing them by discrediting President Obama's birthplace was a terrible lie. Yet, they did not care because it meant they could embrace the idea that everything about him was illegitimate and they could write him out of history. Indeed, Donald Trump has gone after as many easy-to-reverse actions President Obama made as if that was his only job. And they say WE have a "derangement syndrome."

It was utterly obvious from his record prior to running that the content of Donald Trump's character was lacking and that he would not be a good steward of the massive power we give our presidents. He's repeatedly demonstrated contempt for our laws and norms, as if he's magically above the things that would send you or I to jail. He's tried to thwart nearly every effort at constitutionally authorized oversight by our Congress by ignoring subpoenas, claiming executive privilege and even making up new privileges. He's been accused of multiple felonies but claims he can't even be investigated because he's too busy being president. All you have to do is look at his golfing and tweeting frequency to know that for a lie. The number of people he's appointed that wound up having personal problems or ethical lapses in their job is significant. They say he values "loyalty" above all else (ie. those that will lie for him). He's railed repeatedly about a mysterious Democratic "deep state" of government employees that are out to get him, all the while installing his own deep state of loyalists. This cannot continue.

The Republican party has cravenly traded so many of their previously professed values in exchange for the enthusiasm that got them the White House back. But that enthusiasm was for a deeply ignorant, racist, and mean person. They've pretended he was just a wacky grandpa while furiously trying to pass all of their conservative wishlist items into law. They realized he would sign almost anything in exchange for protection. They've been rushing through as many ultra-conservative judges as possible. There won't be any undoing of that. They are lifetime appointments, as is the Supreme Court Mitch McConnell stole from President Obama so Republicans could ensure their majority for decades to come. I think they knew Trump would likely implode at some point. They will run from him if the dam breaks and pretend they weren't even in the room.

Whatever happens next, I really hope you decide to vote in 2020. Things are bound to get messier now and even if the House votes to impeach, the Republican-Senate almost certainly won't convict and remove him. Furthermore, the Americans that put him in power are still with us. They're still watching daily ginned-up outrages on Fox News about the figures they love to hate: Barrack Obama, Hillary Clinton, and now Joe Biden. And they'll be voting in 2020 to send a message that Trumpism is awesome and here to stay.

What say you?

I agree with everything you said. I have been profoundly sad for our country since the horror of November 2016. I didn't sleep that night much at all. Stayed up and watched stupid television until 4 in the morning. And at that point, I had no idea how truly vile this man would turn out to be.

I have hope for the future, if only because those of us on this side have been activated. This will not be an easy or painless path. We must shoulder through it and keep our heads up. We can never become complacent again.

I've greeted this news with "meh" and a migraine. (I Get migraines at times of stress relief and I'd call this a "great disturbance in the force.&quot

It's taken so long, I can't be excited. It's probably the best charge they could bring - it's simple, easy to prove and dynamic but we shouldn't be here.

If this is what it takes.... then what?
