Imagine facing serious consequences, for the first time, at age 73

And I think he knows how serious this is because of his phone call to Speaker Pelosi. When has he ever, in his lifetime, asked a female for advice/help?? Well, other than, perhaps, for some physical "malfunctions".

This may be the first time he's not going to be able to buy or bluster his way out of a mess of his own making.

It's got to be pretty terrifying, on SOME level, to be facing dire consequences. Again, that phone call tells me that this whole situation has pierced even his hard, narcissistic shell.

he did 13 months of an 18 month sentence starting in 2008. sweet deal, as his cell door was not locked and he was able to go on "work release for 12 hours a day 6 days a week.

but it was still prison, of a sort anyway.

The gist would have been that if he stood trial the testimony would destroy a lot of his friends and as a child molestor he would die a horrible death at the hands of his fellow inmates; if he were to commit suicide he would take those secrets to the grave and he could die relatively painlessly.

I myself consider swearing a culturally important form of expression, but only if it’s done right. If it enhances what is said by giving the theme a needed emotional impetus. The book Catcher In The Rye convinced me of the importance of the use of language.

Ever since I read it in high school I’ve appreciated words. I love words! They are a true treasure.

people with criminal mentality (there is such a thing), specifically about high-dollar white collar criminals, said they're typically disbelieving and then outraged when they're arrested. They enjoy seeing themselves superior to others because of their criminal powers but going to prison just doesn't happen to people like them.

Very interestingly, many, like Manafort, were quite successful legally but moved to illegal activities not because they were forced into it or in financial straits but because they found them more satisfying than legal. Something I'd like to read more about.

I imagine a great deal of Trump's delusion of superiority is based on the belief that the constraints of lesser people don't apply to him.
