General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsAs of now, we don't KNOW what the whistleblower report says and we don't know
just what was said in the phone conversation between Trump and Zelensky. WHAT IF--- this whole crisis is a set-up? What if the transcript reveals nothing out of the ordinary, the "whistleblower" is a loyal Trump operative who reported provably erroneous information and when the dust settles, a smirking Trump is demanding an apology for the presidential harassment?
Is it possible that, fearing impeachment for numerous valid reasons, they have duped us into beginning the process based on a falsehood, thus discrediting all that follows?
Should I be fitted for my tin foil hat?

(16,884 posts)Even if you were right and its all made up and a nothing burger, we now have impeachment inquiries and there will be many many things that will be discovered and answered. Think of it as analogous to this like an invitation to police to enter into a house and there as the investigators walk in, there is a cash, drugs and many other evidence of crimes right there to be seen and they have the right to see it and even bring charges.
But I understand why after all that we have been seeing that you could think this for a minute....

(33,643 posts)All we have to go on are 'sources' who've told various media people ... various things. Those various things could be erroneous w/o the complaint being so.
I am worried about the exact same thing, Atticus.
Funny to see people back to thinking that now that 'impeachment has started', Congress is going have ANY easier of a time procuring info from this Administration.
If anything, they'll stonewall and refuse to cooperate even more, and Dems will be stuck bringing everything to court just like they are now.

(5,268 posts)Dam is breaking as several US officials have now spoken to reporters about this corrupt Giuliani/Trump plot to coerce Ukraine to tarnish Biden, even involving dismissal of our Ukraine ambassador in the process as well as withholding security funds from Ukraine if they did not comply with Trump's request.

Where do people need this bar to be set at? Would some be finding reason to not impeach if Trump shot one of his own kids on 5th Ave?

(25,183 posts)This might have been a scheme cooked up by someone in the Trump campaign to put the focus on Hunter Biden. I'm certain that Trump feels that he'd rather run against Sens. Warren or Sanders than the former VP, who stands the best chance of rebuilding the Blue Wall that collapsed in 2016.
I'm sure they already feel that we will seize on any crumb of hope, and they may have tossed sawdust out there to see if we'll scarf it up. Your fears and concerns are rational, no need for tinfoil.

(4,187 posts)is that it assumes Trump can control his own behavior. What he did is completely consistent with what we know about him. He got help from the Russians against HRC in 2016, and after the Mueller report, he thought he was in the clear. So what does he do? Immediately, he does the same thing again, to try to get help from the Ukranians against Biden, who he thinks will be his opponent in 2020. Trump thinks he's invincible. He thinks he's king, and kings get to do whatever they want.
I believe Trump really did ask the Ukranians to investigate Biden because:
1. He's so delusional that he doesn't actually believe there is a problem with this; and
2. He thinks he can get away with anything.
The Republicans will try to minimize what's in the report, but that doesn't mean they are right or that they have to succeed in their gaslighting of the American people.
