I hope we get closure

I've lived through the Nixon hearings, the Clinton impeachment, and now this. Many of the republican strategists were shaping the party back in the late 60s-early 70s and whatever personal darkness they brought to their political careers have destroyed the republican party which produced Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt, and Eisenhower and a number of outstanding, honorable Senators and Congressmen, governors and other politicians who put our country and people first. The longer the thugs in the background ran things, the worse the republican party got.
At this time, how many of us moderate Democrats are so far left just to balance the republicans who have moved so far right, not because we wanted to be out on the edge, but just because there isn't any other way to hang on to sanity. I can't be moderate. I can't be Third way. I can't be Green. I feel that to defend my country, I will have to be far more proactive than I ever planned, for the rest of my life. It isn't just social issues, or the economy, or sending troops to other countries to defend our access to commodities and fuel, or how I want to see my country represented as a beacon that doesn't torture, doesn't cage children, but offers hope and resources for the many. I don't understand how so many people can go ballistic over humane treatment of dogs, but turn away when humans are treated like flies or other vermin. I don't understand how people I thought were my friends, and I had fun with, changed into unrecognizable bastards who only think of their personal needs and absolutely no one else.
I hope that somehow after this impeachment process, however it goes, we can mend the wretched hole in our national fabric and work as a single country with common goals. If we allow the contaminated political processes to keep tearing us from our destiny, if we allow the rotten policy makers to keep playing their games, I don't see how The U.S.A. will be able to remain Camelot.

Ponytail and beard will get cut when Trump is no longer our president. I have not had a haircut for a year. This is how I will close out the period Jan. 2017 to Jan 2021. Then it will be time to save humanity from global warming extinction.

Trump has been a distraction and a hinderance for what is really important. We and the Earth need a cooling off period.

I started growing my beard out in November 2016, pledging to not cut it till tRump was out of there. Originally figuring he would last no more than 3-6 months, I'm near ZZ Top length and have been looking forward to a trim. I believe there is at least another DUer doing the same hair and/or beard protest thing.

Agreed that a healing, positive energy recovery is in order once he's gone but there will be much work to be done at all levels right away. We might be too late as it is.

And welcome to DU.

✌🏼

i initially skipped
your post as it's early on in this procedure in so many ways, there are bound to be tumultuous and angry weeks if not months to get this over with, hopefully resulting in the absolute removal of this rancid Orange stain on our Constitution, on our Democracy, on our country... I too seek closure

and i've said before, perhaps not cogently enough, but i'll try again...
There is no reason why, if we do our part as citizens of this great country, electing our political House and Senatorial members to REPRESENT US,
have to daily seek, watch, inquire, search, be appalled, frightened, and constantly angered by what is happening in our
government stewardship...

we all have lives, families, jobs, hobbies, interests that we should be happily pursuing without the 24/7 grind and horrorific realization that we are being sucked down into a maelstrom whirlpool of lies and political shenanigans of evil intent... i'm sickened by it...
8 years of Obama and i slept well and prospered... i fear we'll never see that again, unfortunately because as Webhead points out above, climate change...

I have children and grandchildren and i fear for their survival,
both due to political ramifications and the demise of our environment and our home, this big blue beautiful ball...
i'll get closure eventually, inevitably... but in empathy to everyone else it's going to get ugly before it gets better .

but at least today, i have hope some change is coming for the better

peace

Having more people show up to vote could help. 92 million didn't even show up in 2016.

but tonight I felt a sense of closure and relief.

What the talking heads don't get when they say "nothing has really changed" is that, for many of us, it was important to feel that the leader of our party was willing to take the necessary steps to hold trump accountable. EVEN IF it could fail in the Senate. EVEN IF some swing district democrats were nervous. It's really important to me because trump has ruined lives. He has cost people their lives. I want justice, or at least some semblance of justice.
