CNN- "Trump was in disbelief". Thought he could talk Pelosi out of it. She played him.

CNN - Trump incredulous after his moves on transparency failed to stop Pelosi

New York(CNN) President Donald Trump was incredulous Tuesday as he sat in Trump Tower and watched House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announce she was launching a formal impeachment inquiry against him, sources familiar with the moment say. Sitting in the same building where he launched his long shot presidential campaign four years ago, Trump said he couldn't believe it, he later told people.

He had felt confident after phoning Pelosi earlier that morning. The drive for impeachment in her caucus had ramped up amid reports he pushed the Ukrainian President to investigate Joe Biden, and Trump was hoping to head off a clash. He figured he could de-escalate tensions by speaking with her directly.

It was after that call that Trump made the decision to release an "unredacted" version of the transcript of his July call -- against the advice of aides such as Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, who warned him it would set a risky precedent. Trump wanted to undercut the argument from Democrats that he acted inappropriately, he said, and felt he had nothing to hide.

But when the announcement he would release the transcript did little to quell the growing calls for his impeachment, Trump was in disbelief.

After Pelosi's historic announcement, Trump immediately began lashing out, accusing Democrats of distracting from his successes at the United Nations General Assembly and arguing it was just "more breaking news Witch Hunt garbage."

But people close to him said he is not welcoming this impeachment fight. The President who keeps a careful watch on his approval numbers was unhappy.

This also isn't the first time Trump has misread Pelosi. He also told aides he wasn't that worried when Democrats won the House after the 2018 midterms because he thought they would be easier to work with than some of the Republicans he had been forced to deal with, like former House Speaker Paul Ryan. Six committees are now investigating Trump, ranging from his tax returns to his policies in office.

and I think the "intelligence" people overrode him on that anyway. Congress will see a "redacted" transcript in several days is the latest. It's all silly, and assumes the rest of the world can be played just like FOX. NOBODY ever thought this was all about a single phone call. Multiple contacts, by multiple individuals (Guiliani, state dept.). And the real issue goes back to stiffing congress (again) on the whistleblower complaint.

it's really baffling to me, seeing exactly which straw breaks the camel's back.

really, what is so different, surprising, unique, offensive, or whatever about ukraine compared to the huge history of outrageous crap from donnie over the last four years?

i mean, why is asking a foreign government to help him smear a political opponent a disaster *this* time when it worked so well *last* time? and why was nothing else he did enough to get him impeached?

maybe it was because democrats pounced all over this one and just responded to it more effectively, i don't know.

anyway, happy. confused, but happy.

Without other evidence, Trump could have been the passive recipient of Russia's assistance in 2015.

My guess is the Repukes don't even want this to go to a full out Watergate-type hearing because that would doom all of them. There will be a scramble to get Chump to resign - quickly - before the GOP's dirty laundry gets aired on national TV. If I'm wrong, then we're watching the self-destruction of the Republican Party.

That is one difference.

Another is what I consider the brilliant moves of Pelosi. She signaled strongly there would be no impeachment, took the heat from the pro-impeachment Dems, and now has been able to announce impeachment hearings without getting blamed in any way for being partisan.

She has managed to open up the divide in the Republican Party that Republican leadership was hiding.

would have any problem?

His entire "business" career has been bluff, bullshit, and bullying. If he can't get what he wants with those, or overpaying, he just walks away.

And, aside from being the world's worst negotiator, he is absolutely incapable of running a business he managed to overpay for. Witness Trump Air, New Jersey Generals, the Plaza Hotel, and, of course, his casinos.

Wow, he really is clueless. He's in his own damn narcissistic bubble. He really does think he's the perfect human specimen. And yet he's still an ignorant buffoon - and a failed businessman.

Right Danny, right? (the scene where Smails doesn't want Danny to talk about his niece)

And then: Judge Smails: 'I guess you don't want that scholarship do you?' Danny, 'I guess I don't' Smails: I guess I don't, I guess I don't.'

Go, Madame Speaker, go!

80. As I said in another thread, THIS is why she was smiling when asked about the phone call.

She was being interviewed by the Atlantic, and mentioned that she had a call with Trump that morning, and was asked "How did THAT go," and she smiled...started to laugh, actually.

This is why Trump said she has "lost her way" in his train-wreck of a presser this afternoon. She lost her way because she chose to not board the Trump Train, and he refuses to understand that. After all, the guy who had a book ghost-written for him called "Art of the Deal" is supposed to make artful deals, right?

is shows that there are no adults left at the White House. We're in super duper dangerous territory right now. The good news is, with no adults left, it should be really easy to get all of them removed (nobody left to say, "umm... maybe you shouldn't say that??&quot .

Trump: I'm just a poor boy from a poor family. Work with me.
Nancy: No!
Trump: I'm just a businessman trying to get one up on a competitor. Nothing wrong with that, surely?
Nancy: No!
Trump: It's a hoax!
Nancy: No!
Trump: Witch hunt!
Nancy: Almost right! It's a WARLOCK hunt! And I think we caught one!
Trump: Not fair!
Nancy: Good!

The trumpers in my office are talking about their grand kids, and putting up pictures of their dogs, and I haven't seen a red hat in I can't tell you how long. They talk in whispers if they bring the guy up. They still claim he's the greatest thing since sliced bread, but it's under their breath. They are losing faith slowly. I have a client who loves to show off some kind of pass card that he says allows him access to the WH. Looks like a credit card with maga slogan on it. I can't wait to ask him if the card will give him access to dotard when he is in jail.
