Trump time to resign with a pardon is closing FAST! Once the house impeach him, he can not receive any pardons. With that being said, if resigns after the impeachment, than he would still be prosecuted for all crimes he committed over the affair. Republicans will most likely pressure him to resign and put Pence in. Do not be surprised if trump resigns before the weekend! If he does, he would play it off that he wants to retire playing golf.

(171 posts)Not true. He can resign after he is impeached and Pence can still pardon him. If he's convicted in the Senate, Pence can still pardon him.
The key here is that once he's out as president, state prosecution is a real concern, and unless he has gotten chummy with Andrew Cuomo (who could do at the state level what Pence could do at the federal level), he's out of luck.

(9,170 posts)He CAN, however, be pardoned by Pence for the federal crimes he has committed, whether he resigns (either before or after an impeachment vote), or is removed from office by conviction in the Senate.

(1,186 posts)He can be pardon for crimes that he was not impeached for.... but any crimes of the case of impeachment, he can not receive a pardon.

except in Cases of Impeachment.
Those five words to means this....
Any case that turns into impeachment and cant be pardon.
That how I read that part of the constitution.
So trump case of "asking a foreign power to find dirt while abusing his office" gets impeached by Congress, then pence can not pardon him for that case was of impeachment.
That is how I read that and back in 1789, i am sure that is what the framers were going for on this. After all, it is not how we interpret in today language, it is how it was interpreted in 1789.
rsdsharp
(9,170 posts)from that era saying that is how it is to be interpreted. I believe the clear language means that a pardon cannot stop an impeachment proceeding, or undo an impeachment conviction.
