My prediction: McTurtle will make a few KGOP senators from red safe states vote to impeach

so the rest can put it behind them. There are red gerry-mandered states and districts that are so safe, they will actually sacrifice one of those to eject magat and install Pensil, thinking they can puppet him. Those voters won't reject those senators, even with the vote.

If I were running the corrupt KGOP, that's what I'd do.

But yeah... there seems to be some lack of understanding as to which chamber of congress gerrymandering applies to.

he could very well engineer a close vote that leaves Trump in office with some safe Repub votes.

2020 will be an electoral bloodbath for them just before redistricting occurs.

and the Senate doesn't impeach, they vote up or down after a "trial" on removal from office after the House impeaches. Gerrymandering has nothing to do with Senate. Your point is good though in that he could have safe Senators from red states vote to remove.

You are underestimating the rabid love of their constituents for their dear leader. Trump is not so much a fallible person to them as an idea. Deviating from their support of Trump would make them entirely vulnerable to being primaried on a single issue.

They love and worship this guy. Somehow that is never accepted around here.

It would not only be political suicide to oppose Trump in this situation...their entire career outside politics would be targeted also. They could never escape the wrath. Likewise their close family members.

…and that’s what G.O.P. congresscritters are really worried about. With support for Cheetolini at 85% among Republicans, any of them who “betrayed” Glorious Leader would be be a dead duck in a primary challenge from outraged True Believers, and having a “safe” Republican district means nothing when you don’t even get your party’s nomination.

evidence is presented in a public forum,McConnell and Company will Stonewall every inch of the way.

Now the Running out of the Clock begins in real earnest. McConnell has to protect himself as well as his Spouse.

Which they still have time to do if this is wrapped up in the next month. But I agree that Republicans would rather not have to deal with him. But I think they have to put up this false front because they are afraid of what he might do if he gets wind that they might vote against him.

If that's how it MUST shake out, McConnell WILL do it; as much as he has abused his power for evil, I WILL give him credit for being damned good at his chosen profession: wrecking democracy for his own power and gain.
