"Moderate" and "responsible" Republicans express concern about Trump's excesses quite regularly. Sometimes they are disturbed, even shocked but rarely alarmed enough to actually do anything. The OP's ridicule of these likely-empty gestures is well placed.

And tell him that the game is over and it's time for him to go? Would he actually take their advice? I doubt it.

Although he may try to work out a resign - and - pardon deal with Pence. But Pence is in jeopardy too. As is Barr. This will get very ugly, very quickly.

I would put $$$ (yeah, not really, not a gambler) on The Orange One being gone by Christmas. What a Happy New Year that would be!!!

They won't be able to see a road permitting a President Pelosi. There will be some dealing IMO to protect Pence

So even if Pence has a problem, they will get rid of one of them, fill the spot, and then fill a second spot if necessary. Remember what they did to get Agnew out of the VP spot for his corruption and replaced him with Ford? They knew Nixon was going to go down, but Agnew as President was so unpalatable that they had to remove him first - allowing him to plead to lesser charges.

Protect Pence for a while. Get rid of Trump. Bring in a repug that has no known scandal. Get rid of Pence. The repug becomes President and picks a VP. Hell would freeze over before they let Speaker Pelosi become President, she has long been their worst nightmare, having her in the Oval Office, even for the good of the country, would not sit well with them at all.

In order for Speaker Pelosi to become President, Trump and Pence would have to drop dead at the same time. Sad, but I am afraid true.

...or, if circumstances forced him to resign, blocking any further moves toward impeachment until Cheetolini had appointed another Republican in his place. Just like how Watergate-era Republicans stalled the process until Nixon had appointed Ford to replace Agnew -- they would never have allowed impeachment to continue if it meant Democratic Speaker Carl Albert might succeed Nixon, and Albert was a doggedly-bland centrist who would never have been as toxic to the G.O.P. as a President Pelosi.

Usually only a step away from "deeply troubling" as a mantra before voting straight party-line on giving Mad King Donald whatever he wants.
