Importers based in the US pay the tariff (tax) to US Customs and Border Patrol. They’ll in-turn charge a higher price to the distributor who charges a higher price to the wholesaler who charges a higher price to the retailer who charges a higher price to the consumer

It doesn’t typically end up being a $1 : $1 increase at the consumer-level so it means someone, somewhere is taking a hit to profits

And those higher prices could indeed cut into revenue for Chinese mfrs but only if the prices are deemed too high by consumers

If they increase price they lose business.

If they find a business no longer profitable because they can't increase prices beyond a certain point they pull out of the market.

Yeah. The problem with a lot of things isn't that the news is incomplete.
