When the democrats bring forth Articles of Impeachment and then send it to the Senate. History will remember for all time the Democrats upheld their oath of office and defended the constitution of the United States of America. History will record for all time the High Crimes of Donald Trump.
If the Republicans do not convict trump for the obvious High Crimes in the Articles of Impeachment. History will remember for all time the Republicans broke their oath of office and betrayed the constitution of the United States of America. They would have to defend that in every future election. History would not forget, nor would it forgive.
Soon it will be written, we the Democrats were on the right side of history and it will be remembered for all time.
We the democrats, no longer have to fear what the Republicans decide in the Senate. The Republicans have to fear what they decide in the Senate.
Members of DU, hold you heads high, you are on the right side of history. You are the patriots of America.

(5,929 posts)...that the Democrats did this out of a sense of duty and a sense of patriotism.
That they did it not for political gain or for personal gain - since many of the Representatives from swing districts were risking their seats - but because, when the chips were down, they were determined to honor their oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America.
Democrats, hold your heads high. You do indeed stand on the right side of history, and you will be remembered for saving American Democracy from an almost-successful coup.

(7,367 posts)I ignore any articles that refer to rising sea levels in 2100. Scientists have admitted they've held back out of fear of being considered "alarmist". Every new study includes the sentence "faster than previously thought".
It's probably too late to do much about it at this point. We certainly had our chances going back to Carter. The GOP stood in the way at every turn.

(9,822 posts)enough rain, but NW Georgia hasn't had any rain since the 1st of July. We had tons of rain January-June and couldn't plant early because it was too wet & muddy. Then, we finally got an opportunity to plant and the rain quit.
Pollinators are being poisoned by drift spraying, as are beneficial insects. Our planet is dying...

(51,585 posts)Americans have an extremely short memory and there is Fux Ruse and social media to further corrupt their weak, addled minds. Besides, most people do not learn from their mistakes, even after they are repeated. We aren't to keen on the subjects of History and Civics either.

(10,500 posts)You are operating under the premise that there are going to be future historians. You are working on the premise that the United States is going to remain a liberal democracy.
That isn't entirely clear at this point. And, honestly, Donald Trump is not to blame, at least for the most part. He is the symptom, not the cause. The Republican Party is moving rapidly towards fascism, and that would be the case with or without Trump.
A future fascist state would no doubt write the history books to say that Russia-gate was a witch hunt, Trump's impeachment was shameful, Hillary's email server was a Watergate-level scandal that jeopardized our national security, and Benghazi was somehow her fault.

(1,736 posts)This impeachment will present the country with a chance to examine the evidence of high crimes. The Constitution and good sense demands this.

(15,536 posts)The GOP is going to first take the pulse of Americans to see if they're paying attention. If our media keeps this in the spotlight as they will have to as the hearings unfold, more and more Americans will become aware and awoke to what transpired. Once the GOP realizes there's no turning back, they will force him to resign.
