Does anyone think that Trump might be driven to suicide?

We know that he has never been held accountable before. How do sociopaths react when they feel like they're backed into a corner? Would that be preferable to him compared to the humiliation of impeachment?

I do think impeachment makes it less likely that Republicans start naming airports and shit after him. I was mildly annoyed with that prospect. :p

Reagan was fortunate to be surfacely charming and "congenial", and being obviously impaired when his administration was all complicit in another impeachment-level scandal.

So he got the airport named for him. But Trump isn't charming or congenial, and his dementia effect isn't soft and sweet but vicious and paranoiac. Maybe some acolyte of his will want to name a post office somewhere after him, but most will be glad to pretend he never existed.

When I think of that, I think of 9/11 when the air space was closed and all aircraft had to be grounded immediately. Experienced air traffic controllers were so incredibly important then.

Reagan was so irresponsible. The airport should be renamed, preferably for a real hero.

I will never call it anything but DCA or Washington National Airport.

And while I'd left the job by then, I recall how Reagan fired the air traffic controllers. And in a complete betrayal of unions, Lane Kirkland, who was head of the AFL-CIO then, completely supported Reagan. No wonder unions are so incredibly weak. Their very own president wouldn't stand up for them.

The one thing he will never be able to handle would be Ivanka's hurt look when the truth comes out. He is a king before her eyes.

Also, he loved Hitler and read so much about him. Probably the only books he actually read. Didn't Hitler die from biting into a cyanide capsule? That would be fast, painless and give him a dramatic exit to go down in history as a martyr. We'd never hear the end of him, then.

You're right to ask this question, but Trump has an obsession with being right and his pattern is to blame others and lash out rather than hurt himself in an act of anger directed at others. Like most narcissists he is afraid of consequences but unlike Epstein or Rodger, he still doesn't believe he'll ever face them. His anger has a hideous self-righteous quality. He's also, it seems to me, extroverted. I'm no psychiatrist, but it looks like introverted narcissists are more likely to kill themselves when backed against a wall. Put another way, it's more important for him to be "right" than to escape.

For one thing, tighten up the requirements to run for POTUS to a thorough vetting BEFORE someone can officially file. Taxes, health (mental and physical), intensive back ground check, and make them pass a comprehensive civics/government exam. And no option about whether or not to put their family business into a blind trust. Reinforce and actually ENFORCE the Emoluments Clause. Restructure the pardon and executive privilege rights.

What we have now might be sufficient to handle a run of the mill 'bad apple' but they are just toys to be exploited, for the current Psychopath In Chief and his minions.

I agree.

If we remember that impeachment is not so much about the current President or particular crimes, (it could just as well be about decorum and respect and behavior) then our duty is the same: protect and uphold the office of POTUS itself for the sake of our political system.

The crimes are about actually getting the people responsible to act on impeachment, because there are reasons to not want to do that that are beyond partisan, again, about the position itself. No crimes are necessary to impeach. If the President wore greasy T-shirts and shorts, didn't shave, swore like a sailor, had drunken parties in the White House, etc., those would be grounds for impeachment, but, well, Republicans would probably ignore the impact on decorum and say, "well, he's just different!"

Not only does this rest on nobody being above and beyond the law, it is about nobody being able to denigrate, compromise, demean, distort and destroy this most essential position in our system. That's the point. Is Trump guilty of that?

Now, as far as impeachment is concerned and the protection it represents, that's being patriotic.

I knew that suicide is an issue with people with borderline personality disorder, who have a way of making everyone hate them, so why not other personality disorders? As Maru said, there's little research out there, but this is from the NCBI.

Narcissistic personality disorder seems to be a distinct group among cluster B personality disorders with regard to suicidal behavior. In contrast to suicide attempters with other cluster B personality disorders, suicide attempters diagnosed with narcissistic personality disorder are less impulsive and have suicide attempts characterized by higher lethality.

When they do become suicidal, they're more likely to plan a successful exit. Of course we don't know for sure that Trump would be, or only be diagnosed with narcissistic personality disorder. People often carry multiple diagnoses.
