It is an impeachment inquiry - not a formal impeachment proceeding.

Nancy will decide when to present Articles of Impeachment. But she has made this an official impeachment inquiry. There needs to be some serious investigation.

By the time they investigate this mess, there will probably be something else uncovered that is even more serious?

However, one message has been sent to the White House: You can be impeached.

That is no small matter.

When they peel back the layers of this onion...I believe we’ll be left with mouths agape in horror at the sheer magnitude of corruption in D.C.

All of the vote counting over the last few days is significant but it doesn't mean what people think it means.

There is no shortage of people - some even here at DU - who seem to think a vote on articles of impeachment is imminent. No, the investigation has just begun. We still have to gather evidence, hold hearings, elicit testimony, and go through all the other investigative duties that will go into drafting specific articles of impeachment. Then the articles will be discussed and debated. Then some of them may be amended or dropped. Then the committee will vote on whether to pass them on to the full House or not. Then, and only then, will the House begin deliberating and debating those articles, and vote on whether to adopt them and pass them on to the Senate.

We're in the first few strides of a marathon, not passing the 26 mile mark.

And they have shown that they have the power to impeach, if necessary.

With 218 votes for an impeachment inquiry, they showed the Executive Branch that they are an equal branch of government.

At the present time, this is just added to the long list of impeachable offenses already on the book. Numerous obstruction of justice charges and abuse of power. Campaign finance violations and defying the emoluments clause of the Constitution. Also, extortion and colluding with a foreign government to mess with our election system, namely attempting to dig up dirt on a political opponent by using a foreign government.

There are numerous charges against this president and eventually, the Democrats will decide whether or not to send Articles of Impeachment to the Republican Senate.

Plus, if you don't understand the process don't damn those who do. I think Speaker Pelosi is doing this exactly right. First of all she has a charge that is easy for the masses to understand, it isn't a 400 page document the majority of the masses will not read or could not comprehend if they did.

I agree that there will be a lot of things come out during this investigation, impeachment is a long way off and will most likely stop with the House impeaching him and the Senate letting him off the hook.

Please, please study the rules before saying the speaker is doing something rash, or that we are going to impeach him in 2 weeks.
