It isn't.
He's not.
How many times in the last three years have people predicted 'once x happens it will be the end of this administration. Each time x happened, nothing happened. We need to learn from past mistakes and not assume.
We are at the beginning, not the end.

(14,164 posts)Allowing Republican guests to rail on how Democrats are just as guilty....and in fact worse! And steering the ever compliant MSM news to cover what they say is a SCANDAL, like Biden's son's business dealings. They'll go after other Democrats or their families too. And the MSM desperate to equalize the playing field, will elevate any and all "mistakes" by the Dems into equal and competing front page news. Get ready for it.

But really, no one knows at this point. Not the ones who state this is the end, nor the ones who state it's not. It's a fluid continuum predicated on layers of action and reaction.
And if we instruct people not to assume, we should do the same thing.

(24,392 posts)This feels different somehow. And I think that we can get Impeachment through the House easier than how things were looking before. Everything else, however, will hinge on how the GOP-controlled Senate reacts. If they mostly hold fast and support Trump, there will be no conviction in the Senate, nor Republican calls for Trump's resignation. If Republicans start to turn on Trump in large enough numbers in the Senate, there will likely be attempts to get him to resign first or, if all else fails, we may get the very first conviction of a sitting US President in the history of the country. However, I am less certain that Republicans will abandon Trump. There's no way out of this for Trump without taking on some severe damage though IMHO.

(5,591 posts)country into a numbing tailspin.
Those of us who are simple citizens with little or no government experience have been blindsided daily until our brains have to shut down to function in our daily lives.
Those in government must be living with a constant acute migraine from Hell in light of the corruption , immorality and traitorous hourly outrages of this Cretin and enabling party of Treachery.
I agree.
No, it isnt done.
Yes,it is just the beginning.
Nothing will be easy, at all.
And it will get exponentially uglier and worse.
It will be done. But not without serious pains.
But FORWARD. With steel purpose.

(73,506 posts)I think we are coming to the beginning of the end. It's not over, as you say. But we are significantly closer. Thus, it is essential that we recognize our responsibility -- outlined in Amendment 1 -- to put the heat on.

Its factually inaccurate to say that.

(14,164 posts)Now, we shouldn't be at the beginning. We should have started this a long time ago. We are not at the beginning of the horror show that is a Trump presidency, but thank gawd the conservative (in the sense of being ever prudent and overly cautious) Democratic leadership finally relented to the pressure of the majority of Dem voters and started to fight back with all the weapons they can muster. Even so, Nancy wants to limit the investigation to a narrowly defined inquiry solely about this last crime with Ukraine, once again, another self-imposed, conservative minded, tying our hands. Nothing should be "off the table". But at least there is movement.

(10,721 posts)What will Volker tell Congress? What, if anything, will Pompeo and other State Department officials tell Congress? What, if anything, will Barr tell Congress? Will the whistleblower (or any of the dozen witnesses referenced) speak with Congress? If Brechbuhl did listen to the call, why is the State Department denying that he did? What did Pence discuss with Ukrainian officials? What all did Atkinson tell the House and the Senate? Regarding the 3 former officials that reportedly told the Washington Post about comments Trump made to those Russian officials in 2017, what else do they have to say? Will Democrats get their hands on the server?

(14,558 posts)I don't get why people think he has to resign, the, the Senate is not going to convict him.
His best play is to do what he's done to this point, continue to use the power of the office to bully the spineless Republicans, in fact our government and Military with Republican poison, keep the lunatic Bass ginned-up.
Stupidest thing he could do is resign.
Impeachment or not, November 2020 is the last stand for this country. And even with a resounding when he's still not going to leave the office willingly.
And just getting rid of him doesn't even begin to get this country headed in the right direction.

(10,122 posts)The GOP put him in the White House.
The GOP enabled him to function there to this date.
The GOP will make the final determination if he is to remain there.
He can be impeached or whatever. But nothing will change until the GOP says so.
The only way to move the GOP is via public opinion.
Until public opinion threatens their hold on power, the GOP will not act against Trump.

(13,903 posts)There no way anyone can say that FF45 is clear or going to be impeached, even if he is impeached, we start all over again and have hope that there are enough converts in the Senate to convict...........and remove.......not just censure.
That is if McConnell bothers to put him on trial, and enough of the court decisions go the impeachment's way. Cuz Trump is going to sue on everything. Already has.
He sees himself as savior and being attacked by everyone. His ego won't let him resign. Man is a paranoiac nutcase.
And the closer it gets to him going down, the more likely it is that the trumpists are going to kill people.
There won't be any civil war, but fully expect the number of winger terrorists to increase.

It's still unsettled which crime or crimes will be listed in the articles of impeachment, if and when articles are introduced. And with the FEC in tatters, where does the oversight come from for the 2020 election??
