Kurt Eichenwald thread (6 tweets): Timeline is devastating.

Thread starts here, full text below:

Timeline is devastating. Start with, Congress appropriates $400m for Ukraine defense.

July 20: Trump orders OMB to put hold on Ukraine $

about July 23: Giuliani speaks to Zelensky aide about a Biden investigation, possible White House meeting between Zelensky and Trump....1

...
July 25: Trump call. Zelensky asks for military aid. Trump urges Zelensky to push Biden and Crowdstrike investigations.

about July 27: Giuliani flies to Madrid, meets same Zelensky aid he pushed for Biden investigation. Claims State Department asked him to go. Giuliani...2

...

later states he told Zelensky that "your country owes it to us" to find out what happened with Biden.

August 12: Whistleblower submits complaint. Important paragraph for future of timeline attached.

...

August 26: Intelligence community IG submits complain to Maguire, says it is "urgent and credible."

after August 26: Maguire takes WB report first to White House, then to Justice Department, to ask if he should give to intelligence committees (as required by law.)...4

...(Remember, report implicates the President, the White House and Barr. No one recuses themselves, decide to withhold report.)

9/2: Deadline passes for Maguire to turn over WB report to intel committees.

9/9: IG goes to Intel Comms, tell them a report is being withheld....5

...

9/10: Schiff writes a letter to Maguire, demanding to know why this report has been withheld.

THE NEXT DAY: White House hold on Ukranian military appropriation released, no explanation given why held or why released.

High crime and misdemeanor. It certainly seems that Trump has committed HCaD and, I hope, will be impeached for that. And maybe other HCaDs.

Let's say the Senate doesn't have a trial or has a trial and votes not to confirm the House's assertions. And then let's say that Trump remains in office and loses the election next year.

Our ongoing assumption is that he will then be subject to a host of investigations and indictments for all sort of white collar crimes, including tax evasion and money laundering.

Here's the stupid question. Can he be indicted for the high crime and misdemeanors he was impeached for by the House?

Not about double jeopardy.

Yes, what the buffoon did was a betrayal of the constitution, among other things. But was it a violation of specific laws the violation of which could form the basis of indictments.

Also in this regard, what specific statutes has Giuliani violated in the actions he has taken. They're vile, certainly, but which part of his actions are against specific laws.

You can't solicit help from foreign governments.

There are probably more.
